RS passes Prevention of Corruption Bill
The Rajya Sabha passed the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013 which seeks to make giving bribes an offense with a provision of punishment. The Bill introduces the offense of giving a bribe as a direct offense. However, a person who is compelled to give a bribe will not be charged with the offense if he reports the matter to law enforcement authorities within 7 days.

Thermal power output rises 6%

The ignorance of warnings against reducing offtake during the period of scheduled power demand caused the problem of low stocks of coal. CIL cautioned power producers against repeating the mistake by reducing coal intake in monsoon. The facts indicate that complaints of coal shortage to the power ministry by generators may not be widespread.

24°C as the default setting for ACs

Power Ministry has suggested air-conditioner manufacturers to keep default setting at 24°C in a bid to save energy. It has also suggested that manufacturers should carry out labelling indicating optimum temperature setting for benefit of consumers, both from financial & health point of view. Having a default setting at 24°C will result in savings of 20 billion units of electricity in a year.

Kaiga generating systems sets new record

The 220 MW Unit-1 of Karnataka’s Kaiga Generating Systems (KGS-1) set a new record of the continuous operation of 766 days. It surpassed the earlier record of 765 days set by the Unit-5 of Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS-5) in 2014. The unit KGS-1 has been in operation since May 13, 2016. The 220 MW KGS-1 is an indigenous PHWR fuelled by domestic fuel.

Power Minister R K Singh has launched web portal and App called PRAAPTI. ‘Praapti’ stands for ‘Payment ratification and analysis in power procurement for bringing transparency in involving of generators’. It aims to bring transparency in power purchase transactions between Generators and power distribution company- Discoms.

In order to exclusively power hotel bookings, IRCTC has partnered with the ixigo, a travel marketplace. Under this partnership, wide range of accommodations from ixigo would be available on the mobile and web platforms of IRCTC. ixigo is a Gurugram based travel search engine and also a mobile travel application available for all OS.

Pravin Agrawal appointed BHEL director

Power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has appointed Pravin L Agrawal as the part-time official director on its board. An Indian Forest Service officer, Agrawal is presently joint secretary in the Department of Heavy Industry (DHI), Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. Established in 1964, BHEL is India’s largest power generation equipment manufacturer.

Coal linkage rationalisation for IPPs

The government has issued the guidelines to allow power producers to swap coal supply assurances against lowering tariffs. The one-time process will be available only to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) having coal linkages through the allotment route. Coal India, South Eastern Coalfields, and the Central Electricity Authority will jointly undertake this exercise.

Mukul Rohatgi appointed as eminent jurist

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi has been appointed as an eminent jurist in the selection committee for appointment of the Lokpal. The post of eminent jurist in the Lokpal selection panel was lying vacant since the death of senior advocate P P Rao. Rohatgi was appointed as Attorney General of India after the Narendra Modi government assumed power in May 2014.

India ranks 4th on Asia-Pacific Power Index

India has been ranked fourth out of 25 nations in the Asia-Pacific region on the Lowy Institute Asia Power Index that measures power across 25 countries. India has been pegged as a “Giant of the Future” while Japan has been pegged as a “Smart Power”. India is ranked fourth on the parameters economic resources, military capability, diplomatic influence and fifth on resilience.

PGCIL Inks Pact With Power Ministry

State-run Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has inked a pact with the Ministry of Power to incur capital expenditure of Rs.25,000 crore for the current fiscal. The MoU includes various targets to be achieved by Powergrid during 2018-19. Other targets in the MoU inter-alia include parameters related to human resources, project management, research & development.

AFSPA removed from Meghalaya

The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, AFSPA has been removed completely from Meghalaya.The AFSPA act, empowers security forces to conduct operations and arrest anyone anywhere without prior notice. In Arunachal Pradesh, the AFSPA has been reduced from 16 police stations areas bordering Assam to eight police stations.

Verne Troyer passed away

Verne Troyer, the actor best known for playing Mini-Me in the Austin Power films and one of the shortest men in the world, has died.He also played the banker goblin Griphook in 2001’s “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and appeared on dozens of TV shows. Troyer was born in 1969 with achondroplasia, a genetic condition that kept him less than 3 feet tall.

Kyrgyzstan’s parliament names new PM

Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament has named Mukhammedkaliy Abylgaziyev as the new Prime Minister.Abylgaziyev, previously chief of staff in President Sooronbai Jeenbekov’s office, replaced Sapar Isakov whose cabinet lost a no-confidence vote. The govt reshuffle completes a series of moves taken by Jeenbekov since he came to power to remove the appointees of his predecessor, Almazbek Atambayev.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd entered the coveted Rs 1 trillion market capitalisation club, after its share price hit a fresh 52-week high on the BSE.Following the jump in its m-cap, M&M has joined the ranks of Ultra Tech Cement, Power Grid Corporation, and IndusInd Bank.The company’s market capitalisation (m-cap) jumped to ` 1,01,829.91 crore.

NMHEP project’s foundation stone laid

Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, laid the foundation stone of the 60 MW Naitwar Mori Hydro Electric Project (NMHEP) in Uttarkashi.NMHEP is located on the river Tons – a tributary of the Yamuna, in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The project was allocated to SJVN Ltd by the Government of Uttarakhand.

Ministry of Power partners with Skill India

Ministry of Power partnered with Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to train the manpower in six states for speedy implementation of its Saubhagya scheme. The scheme aims to achieve universal household electrification in all parts of the country. To support the scheme, the training program has been launched in Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.

India’s first offshore wind turbines

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will set up India‘s first offshore wind turbines at Arichamunai near Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu. This region was selected on the basis of the quality and speed of the wind which was found to be good. The MNRE will install 4 to 5 wind turbines, each with the capacity to generate a minimum of 6 MW of power.

One-minute blackout in Bangladesh on March 25

Bangladesh will observe a one-minute ‘blackout’ on March 25 to mark ‘Genocide Day’, in memory of the three million people killed by Pakistani forces during the country‘s Liberation War in 1971. The government will not suspend power supply, he said, but people will be asked to switch their lights off. Bangladesh started observing March 25 as ‘Genocide Day’ in 2017.

French President arrived in India

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in India on 9th March for a four-day visit. An agreement on the Jaitapur nuclear power plant, which is being built with French assistance, is expected to be signed during the visit. The two sides will also sign an agreement on co-development of a full-fledged satellite constellation in the maritime domain.

Karnataka flag unveiled

The Karnataka Chief Minister unveiled the State flag (nada dhwaja) for Karnataka. The yellow-white-red flag has the State emblem ?Gandaberunda? at the centre. If approved by the Centre, Karnataka will be the second State to have a flag after Jammu and Kashmir. The proposal will be now sent to the Union Home Ministry for approval since a State has no powers to announce its own flag.

Diu first UT to run 100% on solar power

Diu has become the first and only Union Territory to be fully solar energy efficient. Diu has made expeditious progress in the field of solar power generation as it has become the first UT in the country where more than 100% of the energy requirement is met by solar power. Diu generates a total of 13 megawatts of electricity from solar power generating facilities daily.

Microsoft inks renewable energy deal

Tech giant Microsoft has inked its first renewable energy deal in India for powering its new facility in Bengaluru. The agreement will see Microsoft purchase 3 megawatts of solar-powered electricity from Atria Power for its new office building in Bengaluru. The project will bring Microsoft‘s total global direct procurement in renewable energy projects to nearly 900 megawatts.

Indian Military Ranked 4th Strongest In World

Out of 133 countries, India is ranked fourth on a global index for its military strength. Only the United States, Russia and China are ranked above India on the list, according to the latest report of the Global Firepower index 2017. India maintained its position above France in the top five military powers in the world.

Angela Merkel has secured her 4th term in power after Social Democratic party agreed to form another ?grand coalition? govt with conservative Christian Democratic Union. The decision ends almost 6 months of political uncertainty in Germany, the longest time the country has been without a govt in its post-war history. India to help build plant in Bangladesh

India, Bangladesh and Russia have signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the construction of the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. The MoU was signed in Moscow by the Department of Atomic Energy of India, the Ministry of Science and Technology of Bangladesh and Rosatom. Russia is building the nuclear power plant in Bangladesh on a turnkey basis.

Govt extends transmission charge waiver

Govt has extended the waiver of inter-state power transmission charges & losses for solar & wind power projects commissioned till 31 March 2022.Earlier waiver was available to solar & wind power projects commissioned till 31 Dec 2019& 31 March 2019, respectively. Order also provides that waiver would be available to only those projects which are awarded through competitive bidding process.

Private companies to bid for coal mines

The cabinet has approved a plan to allow private companies to bid for coal mines for commercial production.It is the most awaited reform in the coal sector that will bring updated foreign mining technologies, investments into the country while rising output and saving forex. Coal accounts for 70% of India’s power generation, and the country has a target to produce 1 billion tonnes by 2022.

BHEL Bags Rs 560 Crore Order From NTPC

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has bagged an order worth Rs 560 crore from NTPC for setting up a system for emission control.BHEL has secured the order for “supply and installation of the flue gas desulphurisation system from NTPC for 2×490 MW National Capital Power Station at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, BHEL has executed the FGD system at Tata Powera s Trombay Unit 8 in 2008.

Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shri R.K. Singh inaugurated the ‘Indian Power Stations 2018’ in New Delhi.It is the three-day International Conference on Operations and Maintenance. The Minister exhorted the NTPC to become India’s power sector multinational by setting up power plants in other Nations and become world’s largest power producer.

NTPC to supply extra 300MW to Bangladesh

State-run NTPC Ltd will supply 300 megawatts (MW) to power-starved Bangladesh.It is a part of India’s strategy of playing a key role in creating a new energy security architecture for its neighbours. Of India’s current supplies of 660MW to Bangladesh, NTPC has been supplying 410MW.

NTPC may borrow Rs 16,000 crore

State-run power giant NTPC may borrow about Rs 16,000 crore next financial year for adding 6,900 MW of fresh electricity generation capacity by March 2019.“The corporation may hit the bonds or debt market to borrow about Rs 16,000 crore during the next financial year for financing the ongoing projects,” a source said. NTPC is currently working on adding 21,000 MW capacities.

RK Singh Launches ASH TRACK Mobile App

Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R.K Singh, launched a Web-based monitoring System and a Fly Ash mobile application named ASH TRACK.These platforms will enable better management of the ash produced by thermal power plants.It will provide an interface between fly ash producers (Thermal Power Plants) and potential ash users.

Justice Abhilasha Kumari is the first woman to become the chief justice of the Manipur high court.Justice Kumari, daughter of former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh has served as a Gujarat high court judge and chief justice of Tripura high court.She also served as additional advocate general of Himachal Pradesh after the Congress government came to power in March 2003.

Scheme for promoting solar power production

Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahaabhiyan or KUSUM scheme would provide extra income to farmers when by selling the power to the grid.It will help in de-dieselising the farm sector.The scheme will promote energy efficiency and water conservation.The Centre will spend ?48,000 crore on the ten-year scheme which was announced in the Union Budget 2018-19.

8 cr women to get free LPG connections

While presenting the Union Budget 2018 in Parliament, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that eight crore poor women will be provided with free LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme.The Minister added that the Saubhagya scheme will provide power to four crore families and that the government will spend ?16,000 crore on this scheme.

Scheme for Power supply: Haryana

Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur launched integrated power development scheme at Nagrota Bagwan to provide 24×7 power supply in 54 towns of the state.This will include strengthening of power distribution system, setting up new transformers. The scheme envisages to strengthen the basic infrastructure and upgradation of a power supply and substations.

Government to set up $350 million fund

Central govt will set up a $350 million fund to finance solar projects.It is a part of India’s efforts to achieve its ambitious target of adding 175 GW in renewable energy by 2022. India, which receives twice as much sunshine as European nations, expects renewable energy to make up 40% of installed power capacity by 2030. India’s installed renewable power capacity is currently about 60 GW.

Mahavitaran to buy 1000 MW solar power

Mahavitaran, the power transmission company of the state government, is planning to purchase 1000 MW solar power in 2018.At present, the solar power generation in Maharashtra is only 1,000 MW out of which 300 MW is produced by MahaGenco. Under the Chief Minister’s Solar Agri Feeder programme, solar power pumps with the capacity of 7000 MW will be set up for the agriculture purpose.

Cabinet has given its approval to a number of amendments to the FDI Policy. These are as follows:100% FDI under automatic route for Single Brand Retail Trading & Construction Development. Foreign airlines allowed to invest up to 49% under approval route in Air India. FIIs/FPIs allowed investing in Power Exchanges through primary market. Govt. approval no longer required for FDI in SBRT.

PIOs make a ‘mini-world Parliament’

India reached out to lawmakers of Indian origin spread across the world seeking support for its emerging status as a global power.The PIO Parliamentarian forum was planned last year during a conversation with PM Modi to connect the lawmakers of Indian origin with their ancestral land. A total of 141 lawmakers confirmed their attendance and 134 leaders made to this event in Delhi.

India unveils its fastest supercomputer

India unveiled Pratyush, an array of computers that can deliver a peak power of 6.8 petaflops.A petaflop is a measure of a computer’s processing speed and can be expressed as a thousand trillion floating point operations per second. Pratyush is the fourth fastest supercomputer in the world dedicated to weather and climate research and follows machines in Japan, USA and UK.

Saksham Yadav killed in Road Accident

9 : Five men, including powerlifting world champion Saksham Yadav, died and one other person was injured after their car met with an accident.Saksham Yadav, who was admitted in an ‘extremely critical’ condition at the AIIMS Trauma Centre in Delhi, succumbed to his injuries in the evening. Yadav had won a gold medal for the country in the 2017 Powerlifting Championship in Moscow.

Colin Munro Hit Three T20I Centuries

New Zealand’s Colin Munro slammed a belligerent century in the T20 international against the West Indians.Munro hit as many as 10 sixes and three boundaries as he scored 104 runs off 53 deliveries to power New Zealand to their biggest ever T20 score. Munro also became the first batsman in the history of T20 internationals to slam three centuries.

Desktop ATMs in rural India

Andhra Pradesh Grameena Vikas Bank has operationalised it’s first desktop ATM at Kasibugga in Mandi Bazar of Warangal in Telangana.The model will be scaled up to 100 in the near future, said Narasi Reddy, Chairman.The ATM is designed to work in harsh climatic conditions and minimum power requirements.They can dispense small denominations and cater to small cash needs of rural customers.

Nagaland declared as ‘disturbed area’

The entire Nagaland has been declared as “disturbed area” for six more months, till June- end, under the AFSPA.AFSPA empowers security forces to conduct operations anywhere and arrest anyone without any prior notice.Under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (No. 28 of 1958), the central government declared the whole of the said State to be a ‘disturbed area’.

India’s 2nd largest rooftop solar plant

State-owned gas utility GAIL India Ltd today said it has commissioned the country’s second-largest rooftop solar power plant.The firm has installed a 5.76 MWp (Mega Watt peak) solar plant at its petrochemical complex at Pata in Uttar Pradesh.The plant over the roofs of warehouses covers a total area of 65,000 square meters.

Odisha releases Braille calendar

The visually impaired in Odisha will get this year’s Odia calendar and almanac in the Braille format. It is printed and published by Computerised Braille Press in Berhampur. Printing of the calendar, Braille Dinapanjhika 2018, has been sponsored by the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department of Odisha government.

B’desh’s 1st eco-friendly thermal plant

Construction of Bangladesh’s first eco-friendly thermal power plant with ultra-modern clean coal technology has been started by a Chinese consortium in central Bangladesh.The thermal power plant is constructed near a seaport in Payra town in Patuakhali district of Bangladesh. It consists of two units.The estimated cost of the project is USD 1.56 billion.

World’s largest amphibious aircraft

China has launched homegrown AG600, the world’s largest amphibious aircraft.The plane is codenamed Kunlong. With a wingspan of 38.8 metres (127ft) and powered by four turboprop engines, the aircraft is capable of carrying 50 people and can stay airborne for 12 hours.The amphibious aircraft has military applications but will be used for fire fighting and marine rescue.

Modi flags off Metro’s Magenta line

25 : PM Modi will inaugurate the Magenta Line of Delhi Metro, which is expected to make commuting b/w South Delhi & Noida hassle-free.The 12.64-km stretch runs b/w Kalkaji & Botanical Garden and accounts for a travel time of 19 mins.The coaches will have LED display, power charging capacity and colourful seats, while the stations will portray themes of nature, yoga, and cultural landmarks.

New species of scorpions discovered

Tripura has identified a new species of scorpions in Tripura’s Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary.The Schaller’s wood scorpion has large and powerful pincers.The study was published in Zootaxa, an international journal devoted to new species descriptions. Mr. Mirza discovered them. He named the new species Liocheles schalleri in honour of celebrated wildlife biologist George Schaller.

BJP wins in Gujarat and HP

The BJP has retained power in Gujarat for the 6th time in a row.The party romped home again in Gujarat by winning 99 seats, seven seats more than the mark of an absolute majority in the 182-member House. In Himachal Pradesh, BJP wrested power from Congress by winning 44 seats, two seats short of the 2-3rd majority, in the 68 member House.

Chhattisgarh village gets electricity

A tribal village in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district got electricity connection for the first time.The Jokapatha village, situated in the mountainous region, had been deprived of power supply since independence. The state government led by Chief Minister Raman Singh has provided electricity connections to the several villages after 70 years of independence.

PM dedicates Tuirial hydro power project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 60 megawatt Tuirial hydro electric power project from Aizwal.The power project would produce “251 million units” of electrical energy every year and boost the economic development of the state.With the commissioning of the project, Mizoram became the third power-surplus state in the north-east.

Cabinet has approved the introduction of new Central Sector Scheme of “North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme” (NESIDS) from 2017-18.It will fill up the gaps in creation of infrastructure in specified sectors till March, 2020.NESIDS will broadly cover Physical infrastructure relating to water supply, power, connectivity and specially the projects promoting tourism.

The govt has set up a high-level committee headed by NITI Aayog chief executive Amitabh Kant to address the problem of stressed assets in India’s power sector.As per the Economic Survey 2016-17, NPAs in power generation were around 5.9% of the banking outstanding advances of Rs 4.73 lakh crore. Tackling the NPA will provide much-needed relief for Indian banks weighed down by bad loans.

Floating Solar Power Plant in Kerala

5 : The largest-ever floating solar power plant in India has become operational in Kerala.Constructed by Ad tech Systems, the plant will generate 7 lakh units of power in a year.The unique feature of this plant is the anchoring mechanism used by the overwhelming technology to maintain the plant with the alteration of the water level.The total cost of the project is Rs. 9.25 crore.

ADB lends $583mn for RPower’s project

Asian Development Bank has approved debt financing & partial risk guarantee of $583mn to develop Reliance Power’s 750MW power plant & LNG terminal project in Bangladesh.Energy from the power plant will be sold into country’s electricity grid under a long-term power purchase agreement & will significantly improve energy infrastructure in Bangladesh.The total project cost is $1bn (approx).

SAUBHAGYA Scheme launched in Manipur

The Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA) was launched in Manipur by Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R.K. Singh and Shri N. Biren Singh, CM of Manipur. A total of approximately 1.75 lakh households are proposed to be included under the Scheme. This is such a scheme where the poorest of the poor can afford electricity in their homes.

India’s first rooftop solar carport

Tata Power Solar Systems has commissioned India’s first rooftop solar carport at 70000 sq. meter Unity One Mall, in Rohini, Delhi. Tata Power Solar Systems is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Company. Solar carports are overhead canopies (mounted with solar panel) built to cover parking areas. This solar carport will make the mall self-sufficient in terms of energy requirement.

Hike, Airtel Payments Bank tie-up

Messaging app Hike has tied up with Airtel Payments Bank to power its mobile wallet product. Through this partnership, Airtel Payments Bank gets access to over 100M (million) users on Hike and will begin powering the Hike Wallet product. People using Hike will get access to Airtel Payments Bank’s product line including merchant and utility payments and KYC infrastructure.

Haryana to offer power Connection on EMI

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar announced a new scheme offering Domestic Power Connections in rural areas on EMI. Currently, it costs between Rs. 3000/- to Rs. 4000/- to get a domestic power connection. Under this new scheme, households in rural areas can pay just Rs. 200 and get a domestic power connection. The remaining amount can be paid in easy instalments of Rs. 100 to Rs. 200.

‘Saubhagya’ Web-Portal launched

Ministry of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, launched the PM Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana – ‘Saubhagya’ Web Portal. The portal can be accessed at http://saubhagya.gov.in. The Saubhagya Dashboard is a platform for monitoring household electrification progress, which would disseminate information on Household Electrification Status.

R K Singh launches National Power Portal

On 14th November 2017, Power Minister R K Singh launched a National Power Portal (NPP), a centralised platform for collation and dissemination of Indian power sector information. The NPP would be a single point interface for all power sector apps launched previously by the power ministry. The portal may be accessed at http://npp.gov.in.

1st wave-powered navigational buoy

India’s first wave-powered navigational buoy, developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology, to guide ships in and out of ports was launched in Chennai. The wave-powered navigation buoy has been deployed at Ennore Kamarajar Port. The buoy was launched at the 33rd executive committee meeting of IEA-OES as part of a workshop ‘Harnessing Energy from the Oceans — A global Scenario’.

Bangladesh CJ Surendra Sinha resigns

Bangladesh’s first Hindu Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has resigned after facing financial irregularities and money laundering allegations. Surendra Kumar Sinha led the Supreme Court to a landmark verdict which scrapped Parliament’s power to remove judges on grounds of misconduct and incapacity, in August 2017. His term was scheduled to expire in January 2018.

1.5 MW Small Hydro Power Plant in Kargil

13 : The Biaras Small Hydro Power Project of 1.5 MW capacity, in Biaras Drass, Kargil Jammu & Kashmir, was commissioned on 4th November 2017. This is the first project to be commissioned under the PM Ladakh Renewable Energy Initiative. The plant will power the Drass town of Kargil. The project has been developed by Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency.

Kerala govt inks MOU with Intel

The Kerala government inked an MOU with Intel and UST Global for exploring the possibility of transforming the state into an electronic hardware manufacturing hub. The MoU was signed by the state IT department, Intel and UST Global in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Besides, Kerala government has taken an important policy initiative to achieve this goal.

HSBC to finance for climate change

HSBC pledged to provide $100 billion in financing and investment by 2025 to help combat climate change. It is a part of its commitment to tackling climate change and other “green” goals. It has also committed that all electricity used by HSBC would come from renewable sources by 2030. It would also adopt recommendations made by the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures.

24-hour power supply to farm sector

Telangana govt will soon start supplying 24-hour “quality” & uninterrupted power on an experimental basis to the farm sector across the entire state. The rollout is in anticipation of all 31 districts getting continuous electricity supply from March-April 2018. For supplying power for 24 hours to the farm sector, Rs12,000 crore has been spent to strengthen the distribution & supply systems.

Forbes 100 most powerful women list

Five Indian women have featured on the list of the world’s 100 most powerful women compiled by Forbes. ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar is ranked 32 while CL Corp. CEO Roshni Nadar Malhotra took the 57th position. Priyanka Chopra who emerged as “the most successful Bollywood actor to cross over to Hollywood”, is at 97 positions. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has topped the list.

MSME Samadhaan

2 : Shri Giriraj Singh launched MSME Delayed Payment Portal – MSME Samadhaan (http://msefc.msme.gov.in). It will empower micro and small entrepreneurs across the country to directly register their cases relating to delayed payments. The Portal will give information about the pending payment of MSEs with individual CPSEs / Central Ministries, State Governments, etc.

Ramdas launched Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana

Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale launched the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana in Mumbai. Mr. Athawale launched the scheme in Mumbai during the fourth workshop of ”Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushdhi Pariyojana’. PM Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana is launched with an objective of making quality medicines available at affordable prices to all.

SBI-WB sanctions fund for solar projects

SBI and the World Bank announced Rs 2317 cr credit facilities to seven companies to finance grid-connected rooftop solar projects. 7 corporate to which the credit facilities have been extended include Adani Group, Hinduja Renewables, JSW Energy, Tata Renewable, Azure Power, Cleantech Solar and Hero Solar Energy. These grid-connected rooftop solar projects which will together generate 575 MW.

Five states — Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka — are celebrating their foundation day today, Wednesday, November 1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted greetings to the states and wished each of them growth and empowerment. World’s first hydrogen tram

The world’s first hybrid electric tram powered by hydrogen fuel cells has started running in China. It is a big step in the application of green energy in public transport. With water being its only emission,the tram emits no pollutants. No nitrogen oxides will be produced as the temperature of the reaction inside hydrogen fuel cells is controlled under 100 degrees Celsius.

UK’s Most Influential Black Person: Gina

27 : Indian origin campaigner Gina Miller was named UK’s most influential black person of the year. Gina won a legal challenge seeking Parliamentary approval for triggering Brexit. 52-year-old Miller, ranked on top in the 2018 ‘Powerlist’ of 100 people of African and African Caribbean inheritance published in London by Powerful Media.

SAATHI to help small Industries

Ministries of Power and Textiles have joined hands under a new initiative SAATHI (Sustainable and Accelerated Adoption of efficient Textile technologies to Help small Industries). EESL, a public sector entity would procure energy efficient Powerlooms, motors and Rapier kits. The use of these efficient equipment would result in energy savings and cost savings to the unit owner.

‘Most powerful’ passport: Singapore

As per ‘Global Passport Power Rank 2017’, compiled by international financial advisory firm Arton Capital, passport of Singapore is now the “most powerful” passport in the world. The index ranks national passports on basis of Visa-Free Score. VFS is number of countries a passport holder can visit visa-free or with visa on arrival. Higher ranking indicates better global mobility.

First 3D printed wearable ‘battery’

Researchers from Brunel University in the UK have developed the first 3D printed wearable ‘battery’. The 3D printing method of the wearable ‘battery’ stacks silicone, layer by layer to make a supercapacitor. The wristbands could be used in the future to power smartphones, electric cars like pacemakers etc. The research was published in the journal Materials Science and Engineering.

BHEL starts execution of Yadadri plant

BHEL announced that it has commenced execution of Yadadri supercritical thermal power project ordered by the Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Ltd. Project is located at Damaracherla in Nalgonda district of Telangana. This is the single largest order for BHEL so far. BHEL is already executing 800 MW Kothagudem and 1,080 MW Bhadradri power projects.

Power exports from India to Bangladesh

21 : Electricity imports from India may meet nearly a quarter of Bangladesh’s total demand for power in the next couple of years. India currently exports 660 MW of electricity, on a daily basis, to Bangladesh. Of the total supplies, 500 MW is transmitted to Bangladeshi power grid through Bheramara in Mursidabad and the remaining 160 MW through Suryamaninagar in Tripura.

Kavita Devi to sign with WWE

Kavita Devi, a former competitive power lifter, became the first Indian woman to be signed by the WWE. Kavitha Devi would begin training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, by January 2018. Kavita Devi hails from Haryana. She underwent training to become a professional wrestler under the guidance of The Great Khali, she won a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games.

GIC re launches India’s 3rd largest IPO

India’s biggest reinsurer, General Insurance Corp of India’s Rs. 11,370 crore Initial Public Offer opened for subscription. GIC Re’s IPO is Indian primary market’s third largest IPO after Coal India (Rs. 15,200 crore in 2010) and Reliance Power (Rs. 11,600 crore in 2008). Funds raised through this IPO will be used by GIC Re for augmenting the capital base and support business growth.
