J & K abolishes interviews for

Class-IV jobs
The Jammu and Kashmir government today abolished interviews for all Class-IV posts in the state and the selection. All recruitment for Class-IV posts under State, Divisional and District Cadres also for companies, organizations & bodies substantially owned by Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB). The decision will speed-up the selection process against these posts.

T.C.A. Raghavan appointed as DG of ICWA

Dr. TCA Raghavan was appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA). He had served as India’s High Commissioner to Islamabad (Pakistan) and Singapore and has served in missions at London, Thimphu and Kuwait. ICWA was established as a non-official, non-political and non-profit organization under the Registration of Societies Act 1860.

World’s 1st Colour X-Ray Performed On a Human

New Zealand scientists have performed the first-ever 3-D, colour X-ray on a human. The device is based on the traditional X-ray but incorporates particle-tracking technology developed for CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. This colour X-ray imaging will produce more accurate pictures & help doctors give their patients more accurate diagnoses. CERN is a European Organization for Nuclear Research.

Sports Authority of India’s name changed

Union Ministers of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore announced that Sports Authority of India (SAI), will now be known as ‘Sports India’. SAI is a successor organization of the IXth Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982. It aims at the joint preparation of long term sports-specific development plans by National Sports governing bodies and federations of India (NSFs).

DEPwD to Organize workshop for PwDs”

Dept. of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) is organizing a “National Workshop on Skill Development for Persons with Disabilities”. The workshop is being organized with a view to provide a platform to all stakeholders ranging from training partners to the policy makers as well as employers. The Workshop will dwell upon all the issues involved in the skill development for PwDs.

Vitorino to be the head of UN migration agency

Portugal’s Antonio Manuel de Carvalho Ferreira Vitorino has been elected as the new head of the UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM). Vitorino succeeds William Lacy Swing, who is leaving the IOM after serving two five-year terms as director general. Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration.

Seminar on Conservation of Tribes

National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) is organizing a Seminar on Conservation of Tribes of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in New Delhi. This Seminar is being organized by Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI) and Directors of 18 Tribal Research Institutes. NCST, a Constitutional body set up under Article 338(A) of the Constitution protects the interests of Scheduled Tribes.

Govt agrees with Google for flood forecasting

Central Water Commission, India’s apex technical organization in the field of Water Resources, has entered into a Collaboration Agreement with Google. CWC would use state-of-the-art advances made by Google in the in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and geospatial mapping for effective management of water resources. It will give flood-related information to the masses.

Declaration by the Government of India

On March 28, 2018, the World Intellectual Property Organization has notified a declaration referring to the deposit by India, on October 7, 1974, of its instrument of ratification on the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works. India has been the Member of Berne Convention since 28th April, 1928. The said declaration shall enter into force on March 28, 2018.

Olga Wins Man Booker International Prize

“Flights”, a philosophical rumination on modern-day travel by the Polish author Olga Tokarczuk, won the Man Booker International Prize for works of translated fiction. The Man Booker International Prize is awarded by the same organization that gives the Man Booker Prize for fiction. It is for a single work of fiction that has been translated into English and published in the United Kingdom.
