Mike & Jack win 2018 Wimbledon men’s double

Mike Bryan teamed with US compatriot Jack Sock to beat Raven Klaasen of South Africa and New Zealand’s Michael Venus in the final of Wimbledon 2018. Bryan is the oldest man in the Open Era to win the Wimbledon title and it is his 17th Grand Slam title. Bryan had also won the doubles title in 2006, 2011 and 2013 alongside brother Bob.

World’s 1st Colour X-Ray Performed On a Human

New Zealand scientists have performed the first-ever 3-D, colour X-ray on a human. The device is based on the traditional X-ray but incorporates particle-tracking technology developed for CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. This colour X-ray imaging will produce more accurate pictures & help doctors give their patients more accurate diagnoses. CERN is a European Organization for Nuclear Research.

RCEP trade bloc at Tokyo meet 2018

Asian trade ministers from the 16-nation Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, which includes China, Japan and India but not the US, met in Tokyo on 1st July. The partnership would include the 10 members of the ASEAN as well as South Korea, Australia & New Zealand. The development in RCEP could put pressure on the US to consider rejoining the TPP, as the US-China trade war continues.

England women make highest T20 total

England made the highest total of 250-3 in women’s Twenty20 internationals as they beat South Africa by 121 runs. They overtook the previous record set by New Zealand of 216-1 against South Africa a day before. Tammy Beaumont hit 116 off 52 balls and made the second fastest century off 47 balls.

New Zealand women make record ODI score

New Zealand women’s cricket team posted the highest ever total in One-day cricket by scoring an incredible 490 for four against Ireland in the first match in Dublin. The total posted by the women’s team is the highest ever in ODIs including men’s matches. In men’s cricket, the highest total in ODI is 444 for three, made by England against Pakistan in August 2016 at Nottingham.

EC plans to discuss about unpublished roll

The Election Commission will soon examine the New Zealand model, which allows eligible people to vote even if their names are not on the printed roll for valid reasons. The concept of a ‘unpublished’ (confidential) roll will also be discussed. ‘Unpublished’ roll is for those who fear making their details available on the printed roll for security reasons.

Williamson announced Sunrisers captain

31 : Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain, will lead SunRisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League 2018. The decision comes in the wake of the recent ball-tampering controversy that led to bans for David Warner and Steven Smith from the 11th edition of IPL. The franchise also later confirmed the appointment of Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the vice-captain for the upcoming season.

Fastest fifty for India in women?s T20 cricket

25 : Smriti Mandhana created history after smashing the fastest fifty by an Indian player in women‘s T20I cricket. Mandhana, who was opening the innings for India, achieved the feat in just 25 balls bettering her previous best in 30 balls. The overall record for the fastest fifty in women‘s T20Is belongs to Sophie Devine (18 balls) of New Zealand.

UK Tops Forbes’ List of Best Countries

The United Kingdom has topped Forbes’ rankings of best countries in the world for business in 2018.The list ranks 153 countries on 15 factors including property rights, innovation, taxes and red tape.The UK is followed by New Zealand and the Netherlands, while India was ranked 62nd on the list. The UK’s $2.6 trillion economy is the fifth largest in the world.

Protocol between India-New Zealand

The Indian government has notified the third protocol with New Zealand for the avoidance of double taxation. This protocol updates the existing protocol by incorporating new provisions about sharing of tax-related information. This protocol will not only help curb tax evasion and tax avoidance between India and New Zealand but will also enable mutual assistance in collection of taxes.
