Karnataka to set up five tech innovation hubs

18 : Karnataka’s first ‘K-Tech Innovation Hub’ was inaugurated in Belagavi by K J George, Karnataka Minister for IT/BT & ST. The K-Tech Innovation Hub backed by providing space and infrastructure, prototyping facilities and a world-class innovation network. The K-Tech Innovation hub leverages the globally connected ecosystem & brings infrastructure similar to the MIT Fab Lab to Belagavi.

Vistara orders jets from Airbus & Boeing

Vistara, a joint venture between Singapore Airlines and Tata Sons, on Wednesday said that it has placed a firm order with both US planemaker Boeing and European aircraft manufacturer Airbus worth $3.1 billion. The move is taken as an expansion of its domestic network and to mount medium to long-haul flights on international routes. The current CEO of Vistara is Leslie Thng.

Technip FMC wins special recognition from GCNI

TechnipFMC has received a special recognition award for their flagship community development initiative in India, ‘Seed of Hope’, at the 13th National Convention 2018 for developing Suva village in Dahej, Gujarat. The convention was held by Global Compact Network India on June 8 at Shangri-La, Bengaluru. The theme of the convention is Sustainable Development Goals: Blueprint for action.

Modi inaugurates Mundka-Bahadurgarh Metro link

24 : Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Mundka-Bahardurgarh metro network through a digital video link between PMO and Bahadurgarh. With the opening of the 11.2km Mundka-Bahadurgarh stretch of Green Line, Delhi Metro makes its third foray into Haryana, connecting Bahadurgarh to the heart of Delhi. With the opening of this section, Delhi Metro network will expand to 288 km with 208 stations.

Google to train 8000 Indian journalist

Google will provide training to 8,000 journalists in English and six other Indian languages on fact checking. Training workshops will be conducted in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and Kannada. Google News Initiative India Training Network will select 200 journalists from cities across India and train them during 5 day train-the-trainer boot camps.

CSC to reach 2.50 lakh gram panchayats

The network of Common Service Centres (CSCs) are set to be expanded to 2.50 lakh gram panchayats by the end of 2018. Common Service Centres (CSCs) provides electronic services in banking, insurance, passport seva, telemedicine and pensions to villages in India. The CSC model has adopted six villages in the country in the pilot phase.

Blockchain-based trade finance network

Infosys has formed a blockchain-based trade finance network with 7 private-sector banks, to increase security and efficiency in the banking sector. Blockchain allows all stages of transactions to be securely shared between network members, as opposed to each bank working independently. Lenders currently testing its trade finance network are ICICI, Axis and Yes Bank among others.

Read to succeed Colao as Vodafone Group CEO

Vodafone Group has announced that Nick Read will be the next CEO of the company, succeeding Vittorio Colao. Colao steps down after just over 10 yrs in the job, during which he transformed Vodafone from a pure mobile player into a converged operator owning multiple cable & fibre networks. Vodafone owns & operates networks in 26 countries & has partner networks in over 50 additional countries.

SAWEN’s 1st meeting in India

The South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network (SAWEN), an inter-govern-mental wildlife law enforcement agency, held its first-ever meeting in India. SAWEN was launched in Bhutan in 2011. In 2016 the Union Cabinet gave permission to adopt the statute of SAWEN. Its member countries are India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, Pakistan & Maldives.

Kerala Government to provide free internet

The Kerala Government will set up a Joint Venture company to launch its new optic fibre network. The Kerala Fibre Optic Network Limited will implement the Kerala Fibre Optic Network (K-FON) project. The K-FON initiative is being implemented to provide speedy internet connectivity to government offices and educational institutions and to the public at an affordable rate.
