Myanmar joined the India-initiated International Solar Alliance (ISA), becoming the 68th member of the group that is aiming at the optimum utilisation of solar energy. ISA was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then French President Francois Hollande at the Paris climate summit in 2015. ISA is open to all 121 member countries falling between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi begins his two-day visit to eastern Uttar Pradesh. He will lay the foundation stone of a 304km long Poorvanchal Expressway in Azamgarh that will connect Lucknow, to Barabanki, Amethi, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur districts. He will also lay the foundation stone of International Convention Centre in Varanasi and Namami Ganga Programme.

Modi inaugurated largest mobile factory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in visited Noida and inaugurated the New Mobile Manufacturing Plant of Samsung at Noida. Notably, it will be the world’s largest mobile factory. With the beginning of this New Plant, India’s Make In India and Skill India Will get a major Push in the country.

DNA Technology Regulation Bill, 2018

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved The DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill 2018. The bill aims to expand the application of DNA based forensic technologies to support and strengthen the justice delivery system of the country. Bill’s provisions will enable the cross-matching between persons who have been reported missing.

National Centre at AIIMS

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone for the National Centre for AIIMS in New Delhi. The Multi-Speciality healthcare will have 200 general ward beds. Mr Modi also inaugurated the 555 bed Super Speciality Block in Safdarjung Hospital. Mr Modi inaugurated the Connection Motorable Tunnel between AIIMS, Ansari Nagar and Trauma Centre.

Research institute to come up at Maghar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally and lay the foundation stone of a research institute at Maghar in Uttar Pradesh. This will mark the 500th death anniversary of Kabir Das, the mystic poet and saint. PM will visit the Sant Kabir cave and unveil a plaque to mark the laying of foundation stone of the Kabir Academy.

Panel to lay down standards for metro systems

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of setting up of a committee to lay down standards for metro rail systems in India. The committee will be headed by retired Indian Engineering Service (IES) officer E Sreedharan, also known as “Metro Man”. Sreedharan served as the managing director of Delhi Metro between 1995 and 2012.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the fourth meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog at Rashtrapati Bhawan. 10th smart city centre in Naya Raipur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the country’s 10th Smart City Integrated Command and Control Centre at Naya Raipur. Naya Raipur is the upcoming capital city of Chhattisgarh and the country’s first smart greenfield city. Nine other cities under Integrated Command and Control Centre are in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Pune, Nagpur, Rajkot, Visakhapatnam, Bhopal and Kakinada.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 10 met Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. The two leaders reviewed the full range of bilateral ties, especially ways to boost economic and cultural links. India and Uzbekistan are set to route their trade through the Iranian port of Chabahar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the government’s ` 10,000-crore ‘fund of funds’ will ensure that startups get fundings. Padma Shri award given to Tommy Koh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the Padma Shri award, one of India’s highest civilian awards, to former Singaporean diplomat Tommy Koh in Singapore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the International Rupay Card, Bhim app and UPI enabled remittance App by State Bank of India in Singapore. The RuPay digital payments system was linked up with Singapore’s 33-year-old Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS). Singapore branch of the SBI is the first to launch this new mode of remittance in collaboration with NPCI.

Patratu super thermal power project

Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the 1st phase of 2400MW Patratu super thermal power project in Jharkhand. The project is a 74: 26 joint venture between Government of Jharkhand and Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, a subsidiary company of NTPC. It will allocate 85% of the power to Jharkhand that will benefit the state in the long run & will help in economic growth of the region.

Modi to inaugurate India’s 1st 14-lane highway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 1st phase of Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The Delhi-Meerut Expressway would be India’s first 14-lane highway. The expressway will do away with 31 traffic signals on the Delhi-Meerut road, the busiest highway in the region, and make it “signal free”.The project is being built in four segments and is expected to be fully completed by March 2019.

Mukul Rohatgi appointed as eminent jurist

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi has been appointed as an eminent jurist in the selection committee for appointment of the Lokpal. The post of eminent jurist in the Lokpal selection panel was lying vacant since the death of senior advocate P P Rao. Rohatgi was appointed as Attorney General of India after the Narendra Modi government assumed power in May 2014.

9 : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli launched the Rs 3.24 billion India-Nepal petroleum products pipeline from Motihari, Bihar to Amlekhgunj, Nepal on 7th April.This is the first international cross-country pipeline project in India. The Motihari-Amlekhgunj Pipeline project was approved by Indian Oil in September 2015.

AIR earns Rs. 10 crore from ‘Mann Ki Baat’

PM Modi’s monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat has generated a revenue of about Rs10 crore for All India Radio in last 2 fiscals. In 2016-17, revenue was Rs. 5.19 crore, while it was Rs. 4.78 crore in 2015-16. Mann Ki Baat is disseminated on transmitters for domestic audience and via internet for global audience. A new Israeli flower named after Modi

Commemorating Modi’s visit to Israel, Danziger Flower Farm named the flower Chrysanthemum as Modi. Modi visited the farm along with his Israeli counterpart Netanyahu where they were briefed about the latest technologies being used for floriculture. The farm is one of Israel’s leading floriculture companies with 80,000 m² of state-of-the-art greenhouses specialising in reproduction of plants.

India’s longest river bridge

PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate India’s longest river bridge, the 9.15-km-long Dhola-Sadiya bridge near the China border. The bridge is built over the Brahmaputra river. The design is such that the bridge can withstand the movement of military tanks. Cost ot the project – Rs 950 crore. It is 3.55 km longer than the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai, making it the longest bridge in India.

PM launches UDAN Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme from Jubbarhatti, an airport on the outskirts of Shimla. He flagged of the first UDAN flight under Regional Connectivity Scheme on Shimla-Delhi sector. UDAN flights on Kadapa–Hyderabad, and Nanded-Hyderabad sectors were also flagged off.

A raft of mega defence deals, including procurement of an air defence system for the Indian Navy are likely to be sealed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Israel. Modi’s birthplace to become a museum

Gujarat tourism department is in the process to develop Vadnagar-Modhera-Patan as a heritage tourist circuit that involves a redevelopment of Vadnagar railway station (where once Modi sold tea as a boy). The Gujarat Tourism Development Society (GTDS) is planning to convert the erstwhile house of Modi’s family into a museum. Tourism ministry has sanctioned Rs 99.81 crore for the circuit.

India’s first micro-drama festival held

With the longest play running for not more than 10 minutes to the shortest one ending in 42 seconds, India’s first ever micro-drama festival was held in New Delhi. Named after Thespis of Icaria, believed to be the first actor in Greek drama (6th century BC), the day-long event ‘Thespis’ saw screening of 28 independent plays at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Art.

eNAM transacts record ?15,000 Cr

The national agriculture market- eNAM has transacted a record 15 thousand crore rupees business in one year. In April last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched National Agriculture Market portal eNAM to connect e-mandis in several States. The government targets to double the income of farmers by 2022 and for this government is improving the marketing policy and the Agriculture market.

Jallianwala Bagh massacre

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, valour and heroism of the martyrs will never be forgotten. The massacre took place on 13 April 1919 when a crowd of nonviolent protesters were fired upon by troops under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer.

Exhibition on 100 yrs of Champaran

Champaran Satyagraha was a historic mass movement led by Mahatma Gandhi and its impact was phenomenal. PM Modi will inaugurate an exhibition titled ‘Swachhagraha – Bapu Ko Karyanjali’ to mark 100 years of the historic Champaran Satyagraha in New Delhi. India, Bangladesh Boost Cooperation

India and Bangladesh have signed 22 agreements, including as many as five on defence cooperation. India extended to Dhaka lines of credit worth $5 billion following bilateral talks between PM Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart. The 2 countries also signed a historic civil nuclear cooperation agreement. PM assured Sheikh Hasina of an “early solution” to the Teesta waters sharing issue.

India, Israel sign defence deal

India and Israel on inked mega defence deals worth over $2 billion for advanced surface-to-air missile systems. The second deal to be inked was for a similar SAM system to be fitted on board the 40,000-tonne indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant being built at the Cochin Shipyard. The deals are part of the bilateral strategic partnership ahead of PM Modi’s visit to Israel in July.

Kotak Mahindra Bank announced the launch of 8-11, a completely digital and paperless account opening system, that can be used anytime, anywhere. The number 811 is inspired from Narendra Modi’s cash ban that was implemented on Nov 8. The app can be used to open accounts, get account details etc.

Asia’s longest bidirectional road tunnel

23 : PM Modi will dedicate to the nation, Asia’s longest bi-directional road tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on the 2nd of next month. The nearly 11-km long state-of-the-art tunnel will cut down travel time between Jammu and Srinagar by 2 hours. The road distance from Chenani and Nashri will now be 10.9 km, instead of the existing 41 km

2% hike in Dearness Allowance

The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Modi, approved a 2% hike in Dearness Allowance for govt employees and pensioners from Jan1, 2017. The approval was for the release of an additional installment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Cent Govt employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners with effect from Jan1, 2017. This will benefit about 48.85 lakh Cent Govt employees and 55.51 lakh pensioners.

Policy approved for Coal Bed Methane Gas

The CCEA, chaired by the PM Modi gave its approval for marketing and pricing freedom to the Coal Bed Methane (CBM) Contractors to sell the CBM at Arm’s Length Price in the domestic market. The policy is expected to incentivize the CBM operation in the country to boost gas production and will generate economic activities. Coal bed methane gas is a form of natural gas extracted from coal beds.

Scheme for marginal fishermen

PM Modi announced a scheme for small and marginal fishermen for buying modern boats so that they can venture into the deep sea for a better catch. The draft of scheme is almost ready and which will be implemented all over the country. The group will be given a loan up to Rs 1 crore under the MUDRA scheme. The Centre will contribute 50 per cent of funds,” Modi said.

MoU between India and Portugal

Union Cabinet chaired by the PM Modi has given its ex-post facto approval for the MoU between India and Portugal on cooperation in the field of IT&E. The MoU was signed on January 6, 2017 in New Delhi. The MoU will help in developing a long term and sustainable cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual interest in the areas of IT&E in line with each country’s laws and regulations.

India fastest growing economy in G-20

India will be the fastest growing economy among G-20 countries clocking a 7.1% growth in 2017, Moody’s Investors Service said. The Indian economy had slowed in the fourth quarter of 2016 due to the withdrawal of 86%. Regarding Asia, Moody’s said China’s economy stabilised around the official growth target of 6.7% in 2016, but will likely continue to decelerate to 6.3% & 6% in 2017 & 2018.

The Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana 2017, a scheme unannounced by the PM Modi on new year eve was approved by the cabinet.To guard the interest of the senior citizens in case of falling interest rates, PM Modi announced this scheme with a guaranteed interest of 8 per cent for 10 years.The scheme will be launched by Life Insurance Corporation of India on April 1st as per sources.

India to host int. nuclear security meet

India will host a meet on nuclear security next week which will be attended by delegated from over 100 countries.The MEA in coordination with the Department of Atomic Energy is hosting the Implementation & Assessment Group Meeting of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism on February 8-10. This was pursuant to the Modi’s announcement made at the Nuclear Security Summit last year.

Alok Verma Appointed New CBI Chief

Delhi Police commissioner Alok Kumar Verma has been appointed the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He is a 1979 batch IPS officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram & Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre. A three-member committee headed by PM Modi selected Verma as the CBI chief. The selection committee had Mallikarjun Kharge & CJI, or his nominee, as its other members.

Dharamsala Declared 2nd Capital of H.P.

Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh has declared Dharamsala as the second capital of the state. Dharamsala is a city in Himachal’s Kangra district. It was formerly known as Bhagsu & was selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under PM Modi’s flagship Smart Cities Mission. Dharamsala has held 12 Winter Sessions of the state Assembly.

The Dialogue held annually is India’s flagship geo-political conference organized by External Affairs Ministry in partnership with the Observer Research Foundation. The Theme of the Dialogue, this year, is The New Normal: Multilateralism with Multi-Polarity. It is expected to feature participation from about 65 countries.

PM’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ Compilation Launched

A book compiling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio broadcast of ‘Mann ki Baat’ in which he addresses the nation on various issues was launched in New Delhi. The book compiled by Rajeev Gupta form UP was released by Union minister Jual Oram at the World Book Fair. The book covers the ‘Mann ki Baat’ episodes broadcast between October 3, 2014 and November 27, 2016.

India, Rwanda Become Strategic Partners

India & Rwanda agreed to raise the level of bilateral cooperation to a strategic partnership. India extended a $120 million credit to bring over 41,190 hectares of cultivable land under irrigation. The joint statement was issued after bilateral talks of Rwanda President Paul Kagame and PM Modi. Rwanda signed the instrument & became the 25th co-signatory to the International Solar Alliance.

India receives $130 bn FDI in 2.5 years

With the government taking steps to improve business climate, total FDI inflows in the last 2.5 years have touched USD 130 billion, PM Modi said. Modi, while addressing investors at the Vibrant Gujarat summit, also said that ‘Make in India’ initiative has become the “biggest brand” that the country has ever had. The total FDI in the last 2.5 years have touched USD 130 billion.

India’s 1st international stock exchange

Modi inaugurated India’s first international exchange ‘India INX’ at International Financial Services Centre in GIFT in Gandhinagar. INX, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the BSE will trade in equity derivatives, currency derivatives, commodity derivatives including Index and Stocks. The exchange will create new standards in quality of service and speed of transactions in different time zones.

PM Inaugurates India Int’l Exchange

PM Modi has formally inaugurated the India International exchange (IIE) at GIFT city near Gandhinagar in Gujarat. GIFT city & IIE- the International Center of BSE were the dream projects of Modi. The Exchange’ will trade in all the products like currency, equities, commodities and derivatives. Currently, Indian companies have to contact foreign exchanges to raise funds in foreign currency.

Modi Inaugurates Global Trade Show 2017

PM Modi formally inaugurated the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade show at Gandhinagar. More than 1500 representatives of about 80 countries in the world have participated in the trade show. The trade show has different pavilions of various sectors like automotive, pharmaceutical, agro, bio technology and among others. This year special emphasis has been on start ups, women entrepreneurs & MSME.

French Foreign Minister Meets PM Modi

French Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean-Marc Ayrault met PM Modi & discussed a wide range of issues, including defence & terrorism. Both leaders had discussions on terrorism of which the two countries are victims. The French side said the bilateral ties should move forward with the speed of a Rafale fighter jet. The two leaders also discussed about the cooperation in civil energy.

6 Agmts Signed Between India & Portugal

India and Portugal exchanged six agreements in different fields, including defence cooperation, agriculture, renewable energy & marine research. The MoUs were signed after bilateral meeting between PM Modi & his Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa. The two leaders jointly released commemorative stamps. These stamps depict Dandiya & the Portugese dance form of Pauliteiros.

14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Begins

PM Modi inaugurates the 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bengaluru. Visiting Prime Minister of Portugal Antonio Costa is the chief guest of the event. The theme of this year’s PBD is “Redefining engagement with Indian diaspora”. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has been held traditionally on 9th Jan every year to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi as a Pravasi from South Africa to India.

Suriname Vice Prez Arrives in New Delhi

Vice President of Suriname, Ashwin Adhin, arrived in New Delhi on a nine-day visit. During his visit Adhin will attend the inaugural session of the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) in Bengaluru. He will also meet a number of union ministers during his stay in India. He has been Vice President of Suriname since 2015. The PBD will be formally be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Pays Tribute To Guru Gobind Singh

The PM Modi, attended the 350th birth anniversary celebrations of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj in Patna. A commemorative postage stamp was released to mark the occasion. PM Modi offered prayers and served “langar” at the 61-acre area, covered with glittering tents. Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru, was born in Patna on December 22, 1666 & spent part of his childhood.

104th Indian Science Congress inaugrated

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the five-day 104th Indian Science Congress at the Srinivasa Auditorium in Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati. Modi told the audience that “Science must meet rising aspirations of people. Our infrastructure and social welfare ministries must make use of science,”. By 2030 India will be among top three countries in science and technology,” PM Modi added.

Govt. bans phones in Secretaries meets

To keep all proposals and ideas under wraps ahead of the presentation of the Budget on February 1, the Modi government has issued a fresh order. A ban on mobile phones in cabinet meetings, ministers and secretaries has been imposed in all Group of Secretaries meets. The Cabinet Secretariat sent a missive to secretaries of various departments, asking them not to carry their phones in meetings

8% Interest on FDs for Senior Citizens

PM Modi said the senior citizens of the country would get 8% interest rate on fixed deposits of up to ` 7.5 lakh. Senior citizens (60 years and above) will get monthly interest. Under the scheme, senior citizens will receive a fixed interest rate of 8% for a period of 10 years. Currently, banks give senior citizens an additional interest of 0.50% over the regular rates on fixed deposits.

Modi Announces New Housing Schemes

PM Modi has announced new schemes to provide subsidised housing for the poor. Housing for the rural poor will be increased by 33%. For home loans of up to 9 lakhs, the underprivileged will get a 4% interest benefit. For home loans of up to 12 lakhs, they will get a three per cent interest benefit. In villages, will get loans of up to 2 lakh, with a three per cent interest relief.

PM Modi Launches ‘BHIM’ Mobile App

PM Modi launched a mobile app Bharat Interface for Money, BHIM. The app will facilitate digital cash transactions with only a thumb print after the bank account is linked with Aadhaar gateway. Payments through the new system can be made by just a thumb impression. The new indigenously developed payment app BHIM has been named after the main architect of Indian constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar.

PM Lays Foundation Stone of Highway

PM Modi laid the foundation stone of Char Dham highway development project in Dehradun. The Project will benefit people visiting holy shrines in Uttarakhand. The project will allow uninterrupted access for pilgrims to the four Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Mr. Modi also visited exhibition during the launch of Char Dham highway development project.

Law Against Benami Property Soon

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the government will soon operationalise a strong law to effectively deal with benami properties. The law, which was kept on back burner since 1988, will be implemented stringently in the coming days. The revived law will give more teeth to the Benami Property legislation to deal with this menace. The New Benami Act came into effect from November 1.

The project will be set up at a cost of Rs 11,420 crore under the aegis of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MAHA-METRO). PM Modi said the government is actively working on the Rurban Mission, which caters to the places that are urbanising quickly.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation of Madan Mohan Malviya Cancer Center at Banaras Hindu University, Uttar Pradesh. The Institute has been conceptualized by Mr. Modi during his visit to Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the inauguration of the Char Dham project is a tribute to those who lost their lives during the flash floods in Uttarakhand. Addressing a parivartan rally in Dehradun, the Prime Minister said the Char Dham project offers employment opportunities for the people of Uttarakhand. The project will allow uninterrupted access for pilgrims to the four Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri which bore the brunt of devastating floods in 2013. To enhance road safety, the all-weather roads will have tunnels, bridges and flyovers.

Retail inflation at record low in Nov

The Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation fell to 3.63 per cent in November a record low in the new series from 4.2 per cent in October. The main reason for contraction in demand was demonetisation, said analysts. This comes after 8 November when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the old series of ~500 and ~1,000 notes to be illegal tender.

Government to Amend RBI Act

The government is likely to amend the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Act to extinguish the validity of ` 500 & ` 1000 printed before Nov 9. A reference to this effect would be made in the upcoming Budget. As part of the demonetisation process,there would be a law to make ` 500/1000 notes invalid. Banks have received ` 12 lakh crore demonetised currency notes as against ` 15.5 lakh crore.
