IIT D sign MoU with AIIA to validate Ayurveda

An agreement was signed between IIT Delhi & the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) under which projects would be launched that would aim to give “scientific validation” to the Ayurveda and integrate it with technology. The projects would be funded by the Ayush Ministry. The agreement was signed at a conference of the heads of Ayush Institutes on ways to induce modernity in Ayurveda.

Portugal approves new gender change law

The Portuguese parliament approved a law that will allow citizens to change their gender and name from the age of 16 without a medical report showing “identity disruption”. Portugal joins Denmark, Malta, Sweden, Ireland and Norway to become “the sixth European country to grant the right to self-determination of transgender identity.

Trade ties of India and US to be mended

Indian Delegation headed by Santosh sarangi on it’s visit to the US in mid-July may fix some deal on trade tussles going between both countries. US is likely to maintain Generalised System Preferences (GSP) for India which will allow many exporters to enjoy low tariffs. India may change the price restrictions imposed on Medical devices imported from America to trade margin rationalisation.

India signed JDI with Germany in Aviation

28 : The Cabinet signed a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) between India and Germany on Cooperation in the field of Civil Aviation. The Declaration will lead to the promotion of the effective and efficient development of air transport between India and Germany. It would cover Aviation Safety and Air Traffic Management, Helicopter Emergency Medical Services and Training and Skills Development.

Canada legalized marijuana

Canada has become the second nation in the world the first G7 nation to legalize marijuana. Uruguay was the first country to legalize marijuana’s production, sale and consumption in December 2013. Medical marijuana is already legal in Canada.

MoU between the ICMR and INSERM, France

Union Cabinet has been apprised of a MoU which was signed in March 2018 between the ICMR and INSERM, France. The MoU aims at cooperation in areas of common interest within the medical, life sciences and health research fields. The scientific excellence on two sides will help to successfully work on health research in specified areas.

‘FDI rose to $61.96 billion in 2017-18’

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in India increased by about 3% to $61.96 billion in 2017-18. FDI inflows stood at $60 billion in the previous fiscal. The figure includes equity inflows, reinvested earnings and other capital. In the last four years, the government has liberalised FDI norms in sectors such as defence, medical devices, construction development, retail and aviation.

Government approved to set up AIIMS at Deoghar

The Centre has approved setting up of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Deoghar in Jharkhand. The institute will have residential complexes and allied facilities and services on the lines of AIIMS, New Delhi. The AIIMS at Deoghar will have 20 speciality/super speciality departments, including 15 operation theatres.

Ayushman Bharat Diwas on 30th April

As part of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, Ayushman Bharat Diwas is being celebrated across the country on 30th April.During the event, information regarding Ayushman Bharat Scheme is being provided to people during health camps organised in rural areas. The Ayushman Bharat programme seeks to provide easily available and affordable medical facilities in the remote parts of the country.

AIIMS sets up India’s first VBN system

In a first in the country, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences set up Virtual Bronchoscopy Navigation (VBN) system.VBN is a facility for diagnosis and treatment of patients with small tumour-like spots in lungs. Very few countries like China, Singapore besides the US and Europe have this facility.
