Centre supports Bru pact

The Home Ministry is committed to implementing the agreement signed to repatriate 33,000 Bru refugees living in camps in Tripura & Mizoram. As per the agreement each of the 5,407 families will get Rs. 5,000 per month along with ration for 2 years and house-building assistance of ` 1.5 lakh. The Bru community had fled Mizoram in 1997 following an unrest and are in relief camps in Tripura.

The government will be printing and delivering 11 crore Ayushman Bharat ‘family cards’ by organizing public contact programme called ‘Ayushman Pakhwaras’. The CEO of Ayushman Bharat- National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) is Indu Bhushan. The scheme was announced by Union Minister Arun Jaitley in his budget 2018 and is expected to be the world’s largest health coverage scheme.

World Population Day

World Population day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. This year, the theme for the World Population Day is ‘Family Planning is a Human Right’. According to UN, China with 1.4 billion & India with 1.3 billion people are the 2 most populous countries, contributing to 19% & 18 % of the global population respectively.

Nawaz Sharif sentenced to 10 years in jail

7 : The former Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for corruption. The court ruled that Sharif and his family laundered money in the 1990s to pay for 4 luxury apartments in London. The court also sentenced Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to seven years’ imprisonment, fined the family £10m and ordered the seizure of the Avenfield properties.

Israel enacted a new law

Israel government enacted a new law which will financially penalize the Palestinian Authority for paying stipends to the Palestinians killed or jailed by Israel. Out of 120 seats in the Parliament, 87-15 voted in favor of this legislation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had repeatedly demanded to stop the Palestinians from paying stipends to the prisoners and their families.

Oxytocin formulations ban from 1st July 2018

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has restricted the manufacture of Oxytocin formulations for domestic use to public sector only from 1st July 2018. Only Karnataka Antibiotics & Pharmaceuticals Ltd (KAPL), a public sector company, would be manufacturing this drug for domestic use. Oxytocin helps with birth & milk production not only in humans but also in cattle such as buffalo, cows.

Chief Economic Advisor Subramanian resigned

The Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) of India, Arvind Subramanian had resigned from the post and will return to the US because of “pressing family commitments”. The announcement was made by Mr Arun Jaitley. Subramanian was appointed as CEA to the finance ministry in October 2014, for the period of three years. In 2017 his term was extended for a year.

Universities to hold convocation every year

The HRD Ministry has written to all universities mandating them to hold convocation every year after few universities were found skipping the event. “The event carries a huge significance for graduating students and is a moment of pride for their families,” officials said. Interestingly, Jawaharlal Nehru University recently held its second convocation, 46 years after its first convocation.

Delhi accepted full statehood proposal

Delhi Vidhan Sabha accepted the resolution on full statehood to the city. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that the capital has been deprived of its basic rights unlike other states, which has affected the development of the city. Kejriwal promised that if Delhi gets statehood then every family will get one home, people will have jobs.
