Fastest fifty for India in women?s T20 cricket

25 : Smriti Mandhana created history after smashing the fastest fifty by an Indian player in women‘s T20I cricket. Mandhana, who was opening the innings for India, achieved the feat in just 25 balls bettering her previous best in 30 balls. The overall record for the fastest fifty in women‘s T20Is belongs to Sophie Devine (18 balls) of New Zealand.

Nepal cricket team gets ODI status

Nepal cricket team was given One-Day International (ODI) status for the first time ever after its six-wicket win over Papua New Guinea in the World Cup Qualifiers. Nepal was given the Affiliate status by the ICC first in 1988 and was later promoted to the Associate rank in 1996. In 2008, Nepal was included in World Cricket League Division 5, where it finished on the third spot.

Vidarbha clinched maiden Irani Cup title

Vidarbha has lifted their maiden Irani Trophy at Nagpur on 18th March after they beat =Rest of India‘ by virtue of their massive first innings lead. It is their second title in the domestic cricket season after they won Ranji Trophy. Rest of India were bowled out for 390, falling short of Vidarbha‘s first-innings total by 410 runs.

Sri Lanka Cricket released book on Dalmiya

Sri Lanka Cricket paid glowing tribute to the former BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya by releasing a book, titled =A Tribute to Jagu‘. SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala lauded Dalmiya‘s role in strengthening the Asian Bloc. They felicitated him posthumously as the greatest non-Sri Lankan contributor to their country‘s cricket. Jagmohan Dalmiya headed ICC from 1997-2000 & BCCI from 2001-04.

KL Rahul is the ‘Cricketer of the Year’ in the sixth edition of Wisden India Almanack. The Almanack pays a tribute to India‘s women cricketers, with a wonderful cover picture of celebration at the World Cup. Shantha Rangaswamy, India‘s first woman superstar, has been inducted into the Wisden India Hall of Fame. Priyank Panchal, Hasan Ali and Tamim Iqbal are the other Cricketers of the Year.

England‘s Arran Bindle is the youngest woman player at the age of 19 years.

Bangladesh appoint Courtney Walsh as coach

Bangladesh has named former West Indies cricketer Courtney Walsh as the interim coach for upcoming tri-nation Twenty20 series.Walsh, who has been Bangladesh’s bowling coach since 2016, takes over as interim coach from former Zimbabwean cricketer Richard Halsall. Position of Bangladesh’s head coach had been vacant since Oct, when Chandika Hathurusingha quit after three years at the helm.
