US withdraw troops from war-torn nation

US President Mr. Barack Obama declares that the US has largely achieved its goals in Afghanistan, setting in motion a substantial withdrawal of troops from the war-torn nation. The plan involves withdrawal of 10,000 troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2011. It is also declared that the remaining 20,000 troops from the 2009 “surge” of forces will also leave by the summer of 2012, amounting to a third of the 1,00,000 troops now in the country.
