WHO releases new ICD 11

The World Health Organization in Geneva released the latest edition (11th) of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). The ICD is the standard disease coding for statistics and information regarding diseases around the world. These codes are common for healthcare professionals worldwide and provides a common sharing platform for reporting diseases and condition.

India is 2nd highest sender of foreign student

With 1,86,000 Indian students currently studying in the United States, India is the second highest sender of foreign students to the US, next only to China. US consul general in Kolkata, Craig Hall, stated that the United States is the top destination for foreign students worldwide. The number of Indian students in the US has more than doubled in the last 10 years.

World Environment Day 2018

World Environment Day is the UN’s most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. World Environment Day is the “people’s day” for doing something to take care of the Earth. The theme for the World Environment Day 2018 is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. Every World Environment Day has a different global host country. This year it is India.

Jagriti Yatra won charity award in UK

Jagriti Yatra, an Indian charity that organizes train journeys to understand & build India of smaller towns & villages has won an award in London. It was among a series of worldwide charities and individuals recognized for their impact on their communities at the Asian Voice Charity Awards. It organizes 15-day train journeys, covering 800 km for 400 change-makers across India every year.

World Laughter Day observed on 6th May

Celebrated since 1998, World Laughter Day is an annual event celebrated to raise awareness about laughter and its many healing benefits. World Laughter Day takes place on the first Sunday of May of every year. The first celebration was on May 10, 1998, in Mumbai, India, and was arranged by Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement.

World Press Freedom Day observed on 3rd May

World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993. Since then, 3 May, the anniversary of the ‘Declaration of Windhoek’ is celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day. It is an opportunity to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom. The theme for 2018 is “Keeping Power in Check: Media, Justice and The Rule of Law”.

India & Japan to work together

India and Japan have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in energy development space as well as contribute to worldwide energy security and solutions to climate change issues. Both countries agreed to initiate the discussion towards development of Electric Vehicles. They will work together in promoting well-functioning energy markets.

World Asthma Day observed on 1st May

World Asthma Day is celebrated worldwide on the first Tuesday of May every year. It is organised by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), it is a global health event aimed at improving asthma awareness and care worldwide. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Never too early, never too late’. Asthma is a chronic lung disease that is caused by inflammation of the airways.

Initiative for control of viral hepatitis

The Health Ministry has decided to roll out an initiative for prevention and control of viral hepatitis.Under the initiative, the ministry intends to scale up to 100 treatment and 665 testing centres over a period of next three years in all states.Viral hepatitis is recognised as a public health problem worldwide. India is committed to ending viral hepatitis by 2030.

World Haemophilia Day Observed On April 17

World Haemophilia Day is recognized worldwide on 17th April every year to increase awareness of haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders.It was started by the World Federation of Haemophilia. It also helps to raise funds for patients who cannot afford haemophilia treatment. The theme for World Haemophilia Day 2018 is “sharing knowledge”.

India’s child marriage numbers drop sharply

The proportion of girls getting married in India has nearly halved in a decade, the UN children‘s agency UNICEF said. UNICEF said 25 million child marriages were prevented worldwide in the last decade, with the largest reduction seen in South Asia. Currently, 27% of girls, or nearly 1.5 million girls, get married before they turn 18 in India. This is a sharp decline from 47% a decade ago.

India’s 1st Online Radio Station Launched

India’s 1st Online Radio Station ‘Radio Umang’ was launched recently in India. Listeners can tune in to this online radio station through web streaming or download the app. With 24 hours programming, it has found listeners in Hindi speaking regions of India and in over 60 countries worldwide.

UNHCR to get Mother Teresa Award 2017

UNHRC was named as the recipient of the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice, 2017 as an acknowledgment of its exceptional work worldwide. The UNHCR provides humanitarian aid to innumerable people internally displaced by conflicts and helping stateless people all over the world. Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice was instituted by Harmony Foundation in 2005.

Tyagi named among world’s top regulators

According to a report, Sebi Chairman Ajay Tyagi has been named among the top 10 regulators in the world. Tyagi, who took over the reins of SEBI this year, has been ranked at 7th position among the top 10 regulators worldwide. Rankings are part of World’s Most Influential People in Market Structure, also known as Exchange Invest 1000. The list is topped by EU’s Commissioner Margrethe Vestager

11 : Infosys has completed the acquisition of London-based Brilliant Basics. Through this acquisition, Infosys further expands its worldwide connected network of Digital Studios that are focused on fulfilling the needs of global clients for end-to- end digital transformation solutions. Infosys had acquired the company in a cash deal worth GBP 7.5 mn, including earn-out & employee retention amounts
