Dalabehera bags bronze in World Weightlifting

Indian lifter Jhilli Dalabehera has bagged the bronze medal in the 2018 IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championships at Tashkent. She lifted 167 kg in the 48 kg category to finish third on the podium. According to Indian Weightlifting Federation Secretary General Sahdev Yadav, Jhilli is the 2nd woman lifter after Saikhom Mirabai Chanu in 2013 to win a medal in the Junior World Championships.

Six CWG stars join TOPS

Six Commonwealth Games medallists from the track and field, shooting and weightlifting disciplines were inducted into the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). The objective of TOPS, launched by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, is to identify & support the potential medal prospects for 2020 Olympic Games. The selected athletes are provided financial assistance for their training.

Jeremy won 2 medals at Weightlifting C’ship

India’s Jeremy Lalrinnunga (56 kg) broke two national records to win the silver in Youth section and bronze medal in Junior section at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship at Urgench, Uzbekistan.Jeremy created national records in youth boys and junior men during his lift of 250 kg.Sidhant Gogoi finished with bronze medal with a lift of 243 kg in Youth Boys section.

India to host Asian Weightlifting C’ships

Indian will host the prestigious Asian Weightlifting Championship in 2019.The Championship was awarded to India at the Executive Board Meeting and Congress of the Asian Weightlifting Federation held on April 22 at Urgench, Uzbekistan. The last edition of the Asian Championship was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, from April 23-29.

Weightlifter Pardeep claimed silver at CWG

Indian weightlifter Pardeep Singh won a silver medal in the sport at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018.Last year, Pardeep had claimed a surprise gold medal in his first senior competition in the 105kg category. Pardeep’s feat now takes India’s medal count to 13 at the Games and 9th in weightlifting alone.

Sathish Sivalingam won Gold medal at CWG 2018

Weightlifter Sathish Sivalingam won the gold medal by winning the men’s 77kg event at Commonwealth Games 2018.In the previous Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Sathish had won gold. Hence he became the first ever male Indian weightlifter to win gold in two different editions of the Commonwealth Games. In 2017, Sathish won gold at the Common-wealth Weightlifting Championships.

Sanjita Chanu won gold medal at CWG 2018

Weightlifter Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu won India its second gold medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games by outshining in the women’s 53 kg category event.She set a new record in the game by lifting a total of 192 kgs which includes 84 kgs in a snatch and 108 kgs in clean and jerk. Papua New Guinea got the silver medal while Canada won the bronze medal.

Weightlifter Deepak Lather got bronze medal

Indian weightlifter Deepak Lather won the bronze medal in the men’s 69 kg category on the Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games.Gareth Evans of Wales claimed gold medal while Sri Lanka’s Indika won the silver medal. India till now has four medals at the Gold Coast Games and all four have come from weightlifting.

Weight Lifter P.Gururaja won Silver medal

Weightlifter P Gururaja opened India’s medal account on the first competition day of the 21st Commonwealth Games by winning the silver medal in Weightlifting.In the 56 kilogram category, P Gururaja lifted a total weight of 249 kg to finish second in the event. Malaysia took the Gold medal, while Sri Lanka got the Bronze medal.
