National Statistics Day on 29th June

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will attend the closing ceremony of the 125th birth anniversary of Professor P. C. Mahalanobis on Statistics Day on 29th June. The theme of 2018 is – Quality Assurance in Official Statistics. The objective of the celebration is to create public awareness about statistics in socio-economic planning, to acknowledge the contribution of Prof. Mahalanobis.

V. Naidu at Ntl. Consultation on Agriculture

Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu addressed National Consultation on Agriculture at Vaikunth Mehta National Cooperative Institute of Management. He emphasised on a multi-pronged strategy & creating a policy framework with intensification of Farming. The focus was on marketing and agri Logistics, agri trade policy, transfer of technology and agricultural insurance and credit.

VP receives the book ‘Vedvigyan Alok’

Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu has received the book “Vedvigyan Alok” (Maharishi Aitareya Mahidas Praneet – Aitareya Brahmina ki Vaigyanik Vyakhya) authored by Acharya Agnivarat Naishthik. The book is divided into four broad volumes. ‘Vedvigyan Alok’ is the scriptural verse in Vedas’ prose. The Brahman textbooks are placed second in order of preference of Vedic literature.

Rajinder Singh named Hockey India president

Rajinder Singh has been named the president of Hockey India, following Mariamma Koshy’s resignation from the post. He is currently the Senior Vice President of Hockey India. Koshy was appointed as the President of Hockey India in November 2016 following Narinder Batras decision to step down after being elected as the President of International Hockey Federation.

Agreement in field of Renewable Energy

India and Peru have signed an agreement in the field of Renewable Energy at Lima, Peru. The pact was signed in the presence of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and the Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva Arevalo. Vice President’s visit comes at a time when India is celebrating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations with Peru.

India, Guatemala to support each other

India and Guatemala agreed to support each other’s candidature for the non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Guatemala will support India’s candidature for UNSC membership for 2021-22, while New Delhi will do so in 2031-32 for Guatemala. This is the first ever visit by an Indian Vice President to the Republic of Guatemala.

MoU to cooperate in diplomatic training

India and Guatemala have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for expanding cooperation in the area of diplomatic training. The agreement was inked after a meeting between Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and his Guatemala counterpart, Jafeth Cabrera Franco. Guatemala is one of India’s important trading partners in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region.

Venkaiah Naidu leaves to South America

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has left for a five-day visit to South America’s Guatemala, Peru and Panama. This will be Vice President’s first overseas visit after assuming the office. A range of bilateral issues including the strengthening of institutional mechanisms for political interactions, multilateral matters, trade & investments are expected to be discussed during the visit.

Cuba gets its first non-Castro President

Cuba has selected First Vice President Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez as the sole candidate to succeed Raul Castro as president of Cuba.Miguel is the first leader outside the Castro dynasty to lead the country since the 1959 revolution. Raul Castro will remain head of the Communist party, designated by the constitution as “the superior guiding force of society and the state”.

Naidu launched cashless health scheme

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has launched a health scheme of the Assam government that offers free medical care of up to 2 lakh rupees.The cashless scheme Atal Amrit Abhiyan offers free medical care of up to Rs. 2 lakh for every individual from Below and Above Poverty Line families. The scheme will cover 92% of Assam’s population with annual income below 5 lakh rupees.
