Men’s hockey team to be a part of TOPS

The Mission Olympic Cell of Union Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has included Men’s Hockey team under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). The 18 team members will be provided with a monthly allowance of ` 50,000 each. TOPS was launched in 2015 by Ministry of Sports with National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) with the aim supporting potential medal prospects for Olympics.

Tree wall to encircle Delhi

A ‘tree wall’ of nearly 31 lakh native trees will soon encircle Delhi to protect it from dust storms coming from Rajasthan, a senior official of Union Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change said. The government has already begun work of planting saplings. The tree wall will come along Delhi border with Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Ministry to study marine litter issue

The Union Ministry of Earth Sciences will begin work on gauging marine litter and their sources along the country’s coastline. The country had joined the United Nations’ ‘Clean Seas’ programme. India and the US had signed a MoU in 2008 to have scientific and technical cooperation in Earth observations and Earth sciences.

India’s clean energy capacity touches 70 GW

Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has stated that India’s installed clean energy capacity has already touched 70 GW as per data compiled on March 31, 2018. 100 billion units of electricity was generated through renewables during last fiscal, which also is the highest ever so far. R K Singh has reaffirmed government’s commitment to meet target of having 175 GW by 2022.

Robertsganj station renamed as Sonbhadra

The Union Home Ministry has given its approval to rename Robertsganj railway station in UP as Sonbhadra. This is the second railway station in the state to be renamed within a year, with the first one being the Mughalsarai railway station that was renamed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay station in August 2017. Station falls under the North-Central zone of the Indian Railways‘ Allahabad division.

Gujarat to count elusive tigers

Gujarat, which houses a rich population of lions, will now see an exercise to find out if tigers also inhabit the State.The last time a tiger was spotted in Gujarat was way back in 1985. The proposal was approved by the NTCA, a statutory body under the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, Gujarat’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), G.K. Sinha, said.

Akshay to promote the Swachh Survekshan

After Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) urged Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar to partner it to promote the Swachh Survekshan 2018 campaign, the actor promptly agreed.He will be an integral part of the team to promote its cleanliness campaign in Mumbai. The Swachh Survekshan 2018 will be carried out between January 4 to March 10, 2018, by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Ministries join hands for Railways proj.

Three Union ministries have signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate the co-financing of ‘Technology Mission for Indian Railways’, says Ashwani Lohani, chairman, Railway Board.MoU will facilitate co-financing of TMIR by investment sharing for railway projects. The mission will take up R&D projects in the areas of heavy haul, safety, energy, environment and urban railways.

Mission SAMPARK launched

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched the National Strategic Plan 2017-24 aimed at eradicating HIV/AIDS by 2030. Mission SAMPARK was also launched to trace those who are left to Follow Up and are to be brought under Antiretroviral therapy services. The National Strategic Plan 2017-24 will pave a roadmap not only for achieving the target of 90:90:90 Strategy.

Over 1 lakh more houses under PMAY(U)

Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved the construction of additional 1.12 lakh affordable houses for urban poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).This decision was taken at the 28th meeting of the CSMC, held in New Delhi on November 29, 2017.Under PMAY(U), the government has set a target to provide houses to all urban poor by 2022.
