India’s 1st skill training centre in Odisha

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan laid the foundation stone of India’s first National Skill Training Institute in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. The proposed institute will impart training to trainers and create a skill-based ecosystem to meet the industry demands. The Institute costing ` 160 crore will come up over five acres of land and have state-of-the-art facilities.

Awards for Station Beautification competition

The Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal distributed awards to winning stations of Station Beautification competition in Rail Bhawan. Balharshah & Chandrapur Railway Stations of Central Railway have been awarded the first position and cash prize of 10 lakh. Total 62 entries were evaluated on the basis of a number of criteria including the depiction of local subjects, culture & themes.

Senior Congress leader Jacob passes away

Senior Congress leader and former Meghalaya Governor M M Jacob passed away at the age of 90. Jacob, a former Union Minister, had also served as deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha in the 80s. Hailing from Ramapuram, Jacob had served as General Secretary and Treasurer of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee & Chairman, Kerala State Seva Dal Board and an elected member of AICC for many years.

Ram Vilas Paswan to attend UNCTAD meet

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan will attend the UNCTAD meeting of a third inter-governmental group of experts on consumer protection on July 9-10 in Geneva. The group has been set up under the revised UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection. The session will also deliberate on measures on protection of vulnerable & disadvantaged consumers. UNCTAD is the UN body looking after consumer issues.

‘Arth-art for Earth’ exhibition

Union Minister of State for Culture Dr. Mahesh Sharma inaugurated exhibition titled “Arth – art for earth” at IGNCA, New Delhi. It consists of “Excavations in Hymns of Clay” – a suite of environmental art installations by Manav Gupta weaving all of them with a storyline and poetry. The exhibition is available for public viewing until the 22nd of October 2018.

Sports Authority of India’s name changed

Union Ministers of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore announced that Sports Authority of India (SAI), will now be known as ‘Sports India’. SAI is a successor organization of the IXth Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982. It aims at the joint preparation of long term sports-specific development plans by National Sports governing bodies and federations of India (NSFs).

Bengaluru to get India’s first e-waste plant

The country’s first e-waste recycling unit will come up in Bengaluru, Union minister of chemicals and fertilisers Ananth Kumar said. A 2016 study by Assocham and KPMG ranked India among the top five countries in e-waste generation. The e-waste recycling unit will be set up by the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET).

Suresh Prabhu launches Mobile App ‘ReUnite’

Union Minister of Commerce, Suresh Prabhu launched a mobile app called ReUnite which helps to track and trace missing children. The app provides facility to parents and citizens where they can upload pictures of children, and provide detailed description like name, birthmark. This initiative comes under Bachpan Bachao Andolan, the movement for the protection of children.

Pipeline across Maha Prosperity Corridor

29 : Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan has proposed setting up a natural gas pipeline along the Maharashtra Prosperity Corridor. The corridor will be an eight-lane 701-km hi-speed super communication expressway between Nagpur and Mumbai. The Rs 46,000 crore project is being planned to boost agro-industries and port-led developments in the state.

J.P. Nadda inaugurates the NIMHANS Academy

J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the NIMHANS Digital Academy. The Academy will train 50 people in the virtual classroom with a cell phone/mobile phone with 3G connection required at the receiver’s end. It will serve the purpose of mental health care needs and will increase the capacity of human resources for mental health by training doctors, nurses.
