India’s 1st skill training centre in Odisha

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan laid the foundation stone of India’s first National Skill Training Institute in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. The proposed institute will impart training to trainers and create a skill-based ecosystem to meet the industry demands. The Institute costing ` 160 crore will come up over five acres of land and have state-of-the-art facilities.

Awards for Station Beautification competition

The Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal distributed awards to winning stations of Station Beautification competition in Rail Bhawan. Balharshah & Chandrapur Railway Stations of Central Railway have been awarded the first position and cash prize of 10 lakh. Total 62 entries were evaluated on the basis of a number of criteria including the depiction of local subjects, culture & themes.

Senior Congress leader Jacob passes away

Senior Congress leader and former Meghalaya Governor M M Jacob passed away at the age of 90. Jacob, a former Union Minister, had also served as deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha in the 80s. Hailing from Ramapuram, Jacob had served as General Secretary and Treasurer of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee & Chairman, Kerala State Seva Dal Board and an elected member of AICC for many years.

Ram Vilas Paswan to attend UNCTAD meet

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan will attend the UNCTAD meeting of a third inter-governmental group of experts on consumer protection on July 9-10 in Geneva. The group has been set up under the revised UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection. The session will also deliberate on measures on protection of vulnerable & disadvantaged consumers. UNCTAD is the UN body looking after consumer issues.

‘Arth-art for Earth’ exhibition

Union Minister of State for Culture Dr. Mahesh Sharma inaugurated exhibition titled “Arth – art for earth” at IGNCA, New Delhi. It consists of “Excavations in Hymns of Clay” – a suite of environmental art installations by Manav Gupta weaving all of them with a storyline and poetry. The exhibition is available for public viewing until the 22nd of October 2018.

Sports Authority of India’s name changed

Union Ministers of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore announced that Sports Authority of India (SAI), will now be known as ‘Sports India’. SAI is a successor organization of the IXth Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982. It aims at the joint preparation of long term sports-specific development plans by National Sports governing bodies and federations of India (NSFs).

Bengaluru to get India’s first e-waste plant

The country’s first e-waste recycling unit will come up in Bengaluru, Union minister of chemicals and fertilisers Ananth Kumar said. A 2016 study by Assocham and KPMG ranked India among the top five countries in e-waste generation. The e-waste recycling unit will be set up by the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET).

Suresh Prabhu launches Mobile App ‘ReUnite’

Union Minister of Commerce, Suresh Prabhu launched a mobile app called ReUnite which helps to track and trace missing children. The app provides facility to parents and citizens where they can upload pictures of children, and provide detailed description like name, birthmark. This initiative comes under Bachpan Bachao Andolan, the movement for the protection of children.

Pipeline across Maha Prosperity Corridor

29 : Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan has proposed setting up a natural gas pipeline along the Maharashtra Prosperity Corridor. The corridor will be an eight-lane 701-km hi-speed super communication expressway between Nagpur and Mumbai. The Rs 46,000 crore project is being planned to boost agro-industries and port-led developments in the state.

J.P. Nadda inaugurates the NIMHANS Academy

J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the NIMHANS Digital Academy. The Academy will train 50 people in the virtual classroom with a cell phone/mobile phone with 3G connection required at the receiver’s end. It will serve the purpose of mental health care needs and will increase the capacity of human resources for mental health by training doctors, nurses.

Fourth National Consultation of Ministers

The fourth National Consultation Meeting of Ministers of States & UTs, in-charge of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is being held on 29th June 2018 in New Delhi. The meeting will be chaired by Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs. The consultation will be on measures for improving consumer protection and welfare including Public Distribution System etc.

India Infrastructure Expo 2018

Union Minister of Railways, Coal, Finance & Corporate Affairs, Piyush Goyal inaugurated India Infrastructure Expo 2018 at the NCPA, Mumbai. The 2-day expo is being organised by the Department of Economic Affairs & Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). The expo included details on Smart Cities, Sagarmala, Bharatmala, Ganga Rejuvenation Plan & the River Linking project.

Kannur Int’l Airport to begin operations

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu has announced the opening of the Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) in September in 2018. Kannur aerodome will become the fourth international airport in Kerala. With this, Kerala will be the state with the most number of international airports (4) in the country.

Regional Road Corporation in Northeast

The northeast is the only region in India for which the Centre has formulated a Regional Road Corporation to boost development. Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced this in a meeting of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). The eight states of the northeast will now receive 100 per cent funding for central schemes.

Cabinet approves Re positioning of NEC

Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for the nomination of the Union Home Minister as ex-officio Chairman of North Eastern Council (NEC) NEC is a statutory body with Governors and Chief Ministers of all the eight North Eastern States as its Member. NEC implements various projects through the State and Central agencies.

Blast Furnace-1 of Rourkela Plant inaugurated

The Union Minister of Steel, Chaudhary Birender Singh dedicated the rebuilt Blast Furnace-1 ‘Parvati’ of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to the Nation. Parvati is the first Blast Furnace of SAIL that was dedicated to the nation on 3rd February 1959 by the first President of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad. The Blast Furnace was put down on 6th August 2013 for total rebuilding.

India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio drops to 130

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda said India has seen a decline in its Maternal Mortality Ratio from 139 to 130. India’s MMR has significantly fallen from 167 in 2011-13 to the present figure of 130, as per the latest Sample Registration System figures. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has implemented various schemes to increase access to quality healthcare

Fortified rice to be distributed through PDS

Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan announced that his Ministry will be distributing fortified rice through the public distribution system. He once again promised that the prices of grains supplied through the PDS would not be increased till June 2019. Fortified foods are foods to which extra nutrients have been added. Examples – vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin D, folic acid, iodine & iron.

Humsafar Jodhpur Bandra Express flagged off

Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off Humsafar Jodhpur Bandra Express at Bhagat Ki Kothi Railway Station in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur. Adequate arrangements have been made in the trains, including mobile charging points, CCTV and Bio Toilets. Railway projects worth over Rs 13,000 crore has been undertaken in Rajasthan. Humsafar Express are completely 3-tier AC sleeper trains.

Krishna Murari as CJ of Punjab and Haryana HC

31 : The Union Law Ministry has cleared the appointment of Justice Krishna Murari of the Allahabad High Court as the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Justice Murari will succeed former chief justice S J Vazifdar, who retired on May 3. Punjab and Haryana High Court is the common High Court for Haryana, Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh.

‘Green Good Deeds’ gets global recognition

Green Good Deeds, the societal movement launched by Union Minister for Environment, Dr Harsh Vardhan has found acceptance by the global community. The movement aims to protect the environment and promote good living in the country. The ongoing BRICS Ministerial on Environment in South Africa, has agreed to include “Green Good Deeds” in its official agenda in the next Ministerial in Brazil.

First all-woman POPSK starts operations

In a first, a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) run by an all-woman team has started operations on 14th May in Phagwara, Punjab. It was 192nd POPSK in the country, but the first one to be operated by an all-woman team. The Seva Kendra was inaugurated by Union Minister Vijay Sampla in the local head Post Office.

SCO Secretary-General arrived in India

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Secretary General Rashid Alimov has arrived in India to hold talks with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj & other Union ministers. India became a full member of SCO in 2017, at the summit held in Astana, Kazakhstan. SCO is an intergovernmental international organisation aimed at strengthening mutual trust & neighbourliness among the member states.

Gobardhan Yojana launched from Haryana

Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation launched the Gobardhan scheme from Haryana’s Karnal district on 30th April. The scheme would focus on managing and converting cattle dung and solid waste in farms to compost, biogas and bio-CNG. The Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-DHAN) scheme was first announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in budget.

Central Project Monitoring Unit for e-Vidhan

Union Minister Vijay Goel inaugurated the new office of Central Project Monitoring Unit for the e-Vidhan project of the Govt at the Parliament House Annexe.It was done as a part of Swachhata Pakhwada being observed by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs from 16th to 30th April, 2018. e-Vidhan is a mission mode project to digitize & make functioning of State Legislatures in India paperless.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Launched in Telangana

Launching the ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ in Telangana, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan stated the number of LPG distribution points in the State will be increased to 1,000 from the existing 707 for quicker and efficient delivery of gas cylinders. Mr Pradhan promised to create 20 lakh ‘happy homes’ in the State through free LPG gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)– the scheme providing free cooking gas connections to below the poverty line families. Telangana CM- K. Chandrashekar Rao, Governor- ESL Narasimhan.

The new Website and Mobile App of the ‘National Commission for Safai Karamcharis’ (NCSK) was launched by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment.The new website and Mobile App will help the Commission in addressing the grievances/complaints of petitioners in an efficient manner. The new website is as per the Government of India Guidelines for official websites.

PM Ujjwala Yojana inaugurated in Delhi

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme in Delhi on 7th April and distributed new LPG connections and cylinders to beneficiaries here.During the event, about 400 LPG connections were handed over to families belonging to below poverty line category. The PMUY was launched at Yamuna Sports Complex in the national capital.

First International Justice Conference

Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Law and Justice embarked on a visit to Marrakech, Morrocco, for the first International Justice Conference.The conference is being organised by Morrocco in celebration of the judicial reforms undertaken by it in 2017. India is expected to sign MoUs with China, Russia, Qatar and Turkey in connection with judicial reforms.

Rajasthan’s First Mega Food Park

Union Minister for Food Processing inaugurated the Greentech Mega Food Park Private Ltd, the 1st mega food park in Ajmer district, Rajasthan. The mega food park would have a central processing centre as well as four Primary Processing Centres at Jaipur, Nagaur, Tonk and Churu. Mega Food Park includes cold storage, deep freezer, dry warehouse for raw materials, silos, steam generator.

India’s 1st Aviation Multi Skill Dev. Centre

Union Minister of Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju inaugurated the country‘s first Aviation Multi Skill Development Centre at Chandigarh Airport‘s old terminal. The centre, which is a CSR initiative of Airports Authority of India (AAI), will initially train 2,360 students free of cost in three years. It will train about 2,400 youths in eight aviation job roles over the next three years.

GST will replace excise, VAT on crude

Union Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that excise duty and VAT on crude oil will be replaced with Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the coming one to two years.He added that the shift will happen gradually as many states are worried if their revenue collection might decline once GST is implemented.

India’s First MSE Sentiment Index

The Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Arun Jaitley launched CriSidEx, India’s first sentiment index for micro and small enterprises.The index has been developed jointly by CRISIL & SIDBI.CriSidEx is a composite index based on a diffusion index of 8 parameters and measures MSE business sentiment on a scale of 0 (extremely negative) to 200 (extremely positive).

Commencement of ‘Livability Index’

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri has announced commencement of the country’s first-ever ‘Livability Index’ to rank 116 cities.Cities will be assessed on 15 core parameters like governance, social infrastructure, education, employment etc. ‘Livability Index’ will also take into account physical infrastructures like housing, open spaces, land use, energy and water availability among others.

Raghunath Jha passes away

Former Union minister Raghunath Jha passed away in Delhi.Jha was Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprise during former prime minister Manmohan Singh’s government. He was a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and represented Bihar’s Bettiah constituency. He was also a member of the 14th Lok Sabha.

Gujarat Tops Logistics Performance Index

Gujarat has topped the logistics index chart, according to a Report released by Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Suresh Prabhu in Delhi.The chart is an indicator of the efficiency of logistical services necessary for promoting exports in particular and economic growth in general. Among 22 states, Gujarat is followed by Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra on the index.

Assam gets fund for water transport

Union minister Nitin Gadkari announced that ` 1,250 crore has been sanctioned for overall development of inland water transport of Assam.Of this amount, Rs 32 crore will be utilised for constructing 56 terminals and Rs 60 crore for Ro-Ro service, an official release said.Ro-ro is ‘roll-on, roll-off’ ferry service in which people and goods including vehicles would be ferried.

Children exempt from passport biometrics

The government has exempted children up to the age of five years from giving their biometrics to the passport issuing authority.Union minister of state for External Affairs General (retd.) V. K. Singh, made this announcement.However, they will have to be physically present at the Passport Seva Kendra for their photographs to be taken for the passport.

Over 71 cr mobiles linked with Aadhaar

Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that nearly 71.24 crore mobile numbers, both new connections and existing, have been linked with Aadhaar till December 8.He also revealed that about 82 crore bank accounts have been linked with Aadhaar.The deadline for linking Aadhaar number to all services and government schemes is March 31.

Dr Jitendra Singh Launched e-HRMS

The Union Minister of State (I/C) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh launched the electronic-Human Resource Management System in New Delhi.He launched it during the observance of Good Governance Day.The e-service book launched for DoPT during March 2017 will also be integrated into the e-HRMS.

Mega Northeast Exhibition inaugurated

Crime in India 2016- Statistics released

Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh released ‘Crime in India – 2016’ published by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).The number of Murder cases across India decreased by 5.2% from 2015-16.Cases under ‘Crime Against Women’ in the year 2016 (338954) increased marginally compared to 2015 (329243).Uttar Pradesh accounted for 9.5% of total IPC crimes reported in India.

48th Edition of IFFI Concluded

International Film Festival of India concluded with the world premiere of Indo-Argentinian co-production “Thinking of Him”, directed by Pablo Cesar. SAUBHAGYA Scheme launched in Manipur

The Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA) was launched in Manipur by Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R.K. Singh and Shri N. Biren Singh, CM of Manipur. A total of approximately 1.75 lakh households are proposed to be included under the Scheme. This is such a scheme where the poorest of the poor can afford electricity in their homes.

Training program for EWRs of Panchayats

Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi launched an intensive training program for Capacity Building of Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) of Panchayati Raj Institutions in New Delhi. This program is being organized by NIPCCD under Ministry of WCD. The training programme will focus on women’s issues and will provide information on education and financial matters.

12th Inter-State Council meeting

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the 12th meeting of the Standing Committee of Inter-State Council on Nov 25. The Standing Committee in 12th meeting discussed 118 recommendations contained in Volumes-III, IV and V and finalised its recommendations. Inter State council is a constitutional body under Article 263 of the constitution.

India Disaster Response Summit in Delhi

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju inaugurated ‘India Disaster Response Summit’ in New Delhi. India has become the first country to partner with Facebook on disaster response. Facebook introduced a Disaster Information Volunteers programme. Under DIV, a network of trained volunteers would provide supplementary information on disasters in their local communities.

The Minister is leading the Indian delegation, which is participating in the 23rd to the UNFCCC being held at the Bonn, Germany from November 6-17, 2017. Inter-State Council reconstituted

The Inter-State Council has been reconstituted with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as its Chairman and six Union ministers and all chief ministers as members. Inter-State Council investigates and advises on disputes between states. Article 263 of the Constitution of India provides for the establishment of an Inter-State Council and PM is the head of it.

Ramdas launched Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana

Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale launched the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana in Mumbai. Mr. Athawale launched the scheme in Mumbai during the fourth workshop of ”Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushdhi Pariyojana’. PM Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana is launched with an objective of making quality medicines available at affordable prices to all.

1st War of Independence: Paika Bidroha

Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar mentioned that from the next academic session, ‘Paika Bidroha’ of 1817 will be included in history text books as ‘the First War of Independence’. Paika Rebellion was an armed rebellion against British East India Company, which broke out in the year 1817 across Odisha. Combination of social-political-economic causes triggered the Paika rebellion.

Odisha’s first PNG supply in Bhubaneswar

On October 19, 2017, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated Odisha’s first PNG (Piped Natural Gas) project in Bhubaneswar. This PNG supply project is a part of ‘Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga’ pipeline project. The target of the project is to provide one crore PNG connections in the state by 2020.

Purushottam Lal Kaushik Passes Away

Former Union minister and socialist leader Purushottam Lal Kaushik died due to age-related ailments. He was 87. He had served as tourism and civil aviation minister in the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai’s cabinet during 1977- 1979. He headed the Information and Broadcasting Ministry in the then Prime Minister Charan Singh’s cabinet during July 1979-January 1980.

Free Eye Check-up Campaign

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will launch countrywide Free Eye Check-up Campaign & distribution of spectacles for truck drivers, cleaners & helpers in Maharashtra. The objective of this initiative is to ensure clearer vision and safe travel for truck drivers who are the most frequent users of national highways. First LPG Panchayat in Gandhinagar

Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan will inaugurate LPG Panchayat, aimed at encouraging rural communities to turn to clean fuel. The first LPG Panchayat will be held in Gandhinagar, where Pradhan will preside over interaction b/w women using LPG under PMUY & the companies. The Centre plans to organise one lakh LPG Panchayats across the country.

GoM to monitor, resolve IT challenges

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has constituted a Group of Ministers to monitor & resolve IT challenges faced in the implementation of Goods & Services Tax. The Group of Ministers has been constituted under the convenorship of Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi. The group will be assisted in its work by chairman & chief executive officer of the Goods and Services Tax Network.

SANKALP SE SIDDHI exhibition

Union Minister of Petroleum & Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has inaugurated the SANKALP SE SIDDHI exhibition and conducted pledge meeting in Bhubaneswar. Sultan Ahmed passes away

Sultan Ahmed, Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP from West Bengal’s Uluberia constituency, passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest. Ahmed had been a Union Minister of State for Tourism in the UPA-II. He had been a two-time Congress MLA from Entally before joining the Trinamool Congress. He was also the Mohammedan Sporting football club president since 2009.

Central scheme for senior citizens

Union minister Thawarchand Gehlot launched a scheme that provides for physical aids and assisted-living devices for senior citizens belonging to the BPL category in Gujarat. The centrally-sponsored scheme, ‘Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana’, was unveiled on April 1 this year. Under the scheme, aids and assisted-living devices like walking sticks, elbow crutches etc are provided free of cost.

Kalraj Mishra resigns

Kalraj Mishra, Union Minister of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises has submitted his resignation from the cabinet. The departure of Mishra, 76, from the cabinet, had been talked about during the reshuffle last year too as the unofficial age limit for ministers in Modi’s council is 75. Along with Mishra, Labour minister Dattatreya & Skill Development Minister Rudy have also submitted their resignations.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy resigns

Ahead of the likely Cabinet reshuffle, Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy has resigned. Rudy, who represents Bihar’s Saran Lok Sabha constituency, is expected to be given an organisational assignment in the BJP. The Cabinet reshuffling exercise is expected to be completed before Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaves for China to attend BRICS Summit.

Rajnath Singh Inaugurates YUVA

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the YUVA – a skill development programme and an initiative by Delhi Police under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. YUVA aims to connect with youth by upgrading their skill as per their competencies. Delhi Police has tied up with NSDC and CII for providing mass job linked skill training for the selected youth.

Niti Aayog awards 12 women

Union minister Smriti Irani & Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya awarded 12 women to recognise the trans-formational impact of work undertaken by them across India’s villages, towns & cities. ‘Women Transforming India Awards’ was launched by Niti Aayog last year in partnership with UN in India & MyGov. The awardees included Sunita Kamble, Raji Borthakur, Safeena Husain & Arunima Sinha

Campaign for clean and healthy society

Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment Tanwar Chand Gehlot inaugurated a 9-day campaign on Clean Society-Healthy Society in Delhi. The campaign will be carried out by Brahma Kumaris organization in different areas of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram & Faridabad. The organization will sensitize the public on inner & outer cleanliness, holistic health & hygiene, moral values & character building.

15 medical outlets of AMRIT Deendayal

Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare JP Nadda will launch 15 medical outlets of AMRIT Deendayal in Assam, UP & Punjab. He will also inaugurate one outlet of AMRIT Deendayal at Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla. A purpose of AMRIT Deendayal program is to provide different kind of medicines & equipment’s on cheap rates to patients, discount up to 60% on MRP is provided to patients.

Sanwar Lal Jat passes away

BJP’s Member of Parliament from Ajmer and former Union minister Prof Sanwar Lal Jat passed away in New Delhi. He was member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly for five terms. He also served as Minister in the Rajasthan Government thrice. He served as Union Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation till July last year.

Santosh Mohan Dev passes away

Former union minister and a one-time heavyweight Congress leader Santosh Mohan Dev died following a prolonged illness. He was Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprise in first UPA govt led by Dr Singh. He was elected to Lok Sabha 7 times since 1980 – 5 times from Silchar & twice from Tripura. He also served as MoS for communications from 1986-1988 & MoS for home b/w 1988-1989

Mobile App for Road Maintenance

Union Minister Narendra Tomar & Deputy Director General of ILO Ms. Deborah Greenfield have launched “Aarambh”, Mobile App for Road Maintenance. It aims at use of GIS based mapping for making road inventories, condition surveys and other relevant data for monitoring of annual road maintenance plans. It would help in improving service delivery for road maintenance in all States.

First Maize based Mega Food Park

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister of Food Processing Industry laid the foundation stone for 1st Maize based Mega Food Park in Kapurthala, Punjab. It is a major step for containing desertification problem of Punjab and would make farmers turn to maize cultivation which need less water for more production. It will provide employment to 5,000 persons & benefit about 25,000 farmers.

EPFO to invest ` 20,000 cr in equities

Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said EPFO will invest Rs 20,000 crore in exchange traded funds this fiscal. Earlier EPFO had approved hike in investment limit in exchange traded funds to 15 per cent from the existing 10 per cent. ETF are essentially Index Funds that are listed and traded on exchanges like stocks.

Piyush Goyal launches ‘SEVA’ App.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal launched the Saral Eindhan Vitaran Application. It is a part of ‘Digital India’ initiative, which is aimed at increasing the Consumer Connect and Transparency and Accountability in Coal dispatch. The application has been developed by Coal India. It will also provide summary of quantity of coal dispatched for a given day, month, and yearly updates as well.

April 14 to be Celebrated as Water Day

Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Uma Bharti has announced that 14th April will be celebrated as “Water Day” on the occasion of BR Ambedkar’s birthday. She said in the coming days water is going to become an important agenda of the govt. She also said there was need to reform water resources management & those misusing this resource should be punished.
