1st government blockchain centre in Hyderabad

The Centre has decided to set up a Centre of Excellence for blockchain technology in Hyderabad to drive innovation. The Centre of Excellence proposed to come up at C-DAC’s Hyderabad unit. The plan is to use blockchain technology to digitise and secure land records for Telangana. ICICI Bank was the first to execute transactions using Blockchain technology.

Telangana allocates 15 Cr for Bonalu festival

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao instructed officials to release Rs. 15 crore for organising Bonalu festival. Bonalu is an annual festival of Telangana celebrated in twin cities Hyderabad and Secunderabad and other parts of Telangana. It is celebrated in the month of Ashada Masam, in July/August. The current governor of Telangana is E. S. L. Narasimhan.

Telangana Police launched “Cop Connect”

The Telangana police have launched a mobile-based app ‘Cop Connect’, dedicated to provide real time information to over 60,000 police officers in the State. The internal messaging app, developed on the lines of WhatsApp but has no limitation like restricted number of users in a group. The app is secure as a separate server for this purpose in the data centre of the IT wing of the department.

Telangana to set up special turmeric cell

The Union Commerce Ministry along with Telangana government would set up a special cell for turmeric in Nizamabad. The proposed move would help in improving the production, quality, marketing and export of turmeric. India is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of turmeric in the world. The export volume is of 80,400 tons worth 778.07 Crore.

Nerella Venumadhav passes away

Father of Indian mimicry, Nerella Venu Madhav died after a brief illness at his home in Mattewada in Warangal city in Telangana. Venumadhav served as an MLC in 1971 in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. He rose to international fame after his enthralling performance at the United Nations. He has been conferred scores of awards, including the Padma Shri in 2001.

Veteran journalist Adiraju passes away

Senior journalist and writer Adiraju Venkateswara Rao passed away in Hyderabad. He worked for several Telugu and English dailies and news agencies including Andhra Jyothi, Udayam, Deccan Chronicle, Indian Express, Himachal Times and Hindustan Samachar at Hyderabad and Delhi. He played an active role in the separate Telangana agitation in 1969.

Telangana banned plastic items in offices

The Telangana government directed all urban local bodies and civic municipal bodies to ban usage of single-use plastic in the offices. Use of plastic below 50 microns of thickness is already banned as per Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. The government plans to make Hyderabad a single-use plastic-free city by 2022.

Telangana, LIC sign MoU for life insurance

Telangana government and the LIC signed a MoU for the implementation of a Rs five lakh life insurance scheme for the benefit of farmers in the state. The scheme will be implemented from August 15. The agriculture department alone would implement the scheme and the AEOs (Agriculture Extension Officers) should get the insurance papers filled up by farmers before August 15.

Nasscom to set up cyber security CoE

The Data Security Council of India (DSCI), an arm of the Nasscom, has signed an agreement with the Telangana government to set up the Centre of Excellence for cyber security. The CoE will accelerate Telangana’s cyber security momentum and make the State a hub for cyber security in the next 5 years. This CoE will help increase State’s cyber security preparedness.

Telangana’s formation day on June 2

Telangana celebrated its fourth formation day on 2nd June. The state was formed on 2nd June in 2014 following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Telangana was carved out from the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh as the 29th state. Telangana gained fame as one of the fastest growing and surplus state economies in the country.

Andhra Pradesh gets new state bird & flower

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to notify ‘Rose-ringed parakeet’ popularly known as ‘Rama Chiluka’, as the state bird. The neem is the official tree of the Andhra Pradesh. The blackbuck is the animal while Jasmine as its state flower. Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated to create Telangana in June 2014.

Insurance cover for all Telangana farmers

Telangana government has announced that it would provide life insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh each to all farmers in the state. The Telangana government has tied up with LIC for implementation of the scheme. Irrespective of the reasons due to which a farmer dies, the insured amount of Rs 5 lakh shall be paid to the nominee proposed by the insured farmer within 10 days of the claim.

Adilabad Dokra & Warangal Durries get GI tag

Adilabad Dokra, an ancient bell metal craft popular in the tribal regions of Adilabad district in Telangana, and Warangal Durries have been issued the Geographical Indication (GI) Registration Certificate by the GI Registry, Chennai.GI tag can be used as a marketing tool to promote the products in India and abroad. The Dokra craftsmen belong to the Woj community, called Wojaris.

2% quota for Sports persons in govt jobs

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced 2% reservation in state government jobs for sportspersons.Rao extended this sporting gesture while felicitating a group of 18 members, who participated in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast. Currently 2% seats in educational institutions were reserved for sportspersons.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Launched in Telangana

Launching the ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ in Telangana, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan stated the number of LPG distribution points in the State will be increased to 1,000 from the existing 707 for quicker and efficient delivery of gas cylinders. Mr Pradhan promised to create 20 lakh ‘happy homes’ in the State through free LPG gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)– the scheme providing free cooking gas connections to below the poverty line families. Start-up incubator for women We-Hub launched

A start-up incubator was launched by the Telangana government to exclusively promote entrepreneurship among women. The facility, named We-Hub, is the country‘s first state-led incubator exclusively for women entrepreneurs. We-Hub is an entrepreneurial platform for aspiring women from rural and urban backgrounds helping them achieve being independent and overcome the societal barriers.

Centre moots Spice Park for turmeric

The Centre has agreed to set up a special cell in the Spices Board for Telangana government to take care of issues related to turmeric farmers. The government also proposed to set up an exclusive Spice Park for turmeric in Telangana. Telangana is a top producer of turmeric in the country.

Telangana inks MoU with ISE Foods

Telangana has signed a MoU with the Clean Authority of Tokyo for solid waste management.The two sides will exchange expertise and build technical cooperation in waste management. ISE Foods will set up a pilot project for egg production using advanced technologies. The firm will also set up a solar park to support the egg production facility, including the development of storage devices.

TIHCL Gets RBI Nod to Operate as NBFC

Telangana Industrial Health Clinic Ltd (TIHCL), a State government initiative, has got RBI clearance to register and function as a non-banking finance company (NBFC).It will be the first State promoted and co-financing NBFC. It had won the SKOCH Platinum Award in September 2017 under the smart governance category in the MSME segment.

Telangana to have minorities commission

Telangana government formed Minorities Commission with Mohammed Qamaruddin as its Chairman.Rajarapu Pratap was made Vice Chairman of Telangana Minorities Commission. The members of this commission are Mohammed Arshad Ali Khan, Vidya Sravanti, Gusty Noria, Bommala Kattaiah and Surender Singh.

Kaleshwaram project gets envt. nod

The Expert Appraisal Committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change has accorded environmental clearance for the Kaleshwaram irrigation project in Telangana. Project envisages construction of a barrage across River Godavari near Madigadda village in Karimnagar district of Telangana. This aims to divert 180 TMC of water for providing irrigation facility in 7.38 lakh hectare

Telangana Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao stated that 3 initiatives for women entrepreneurs including setting up ‘We-Hub’ on the lines of T-Hub and also to create Rs 15 crore fund.T-Hub is a partnership between the government of Telangana with three of India’s premier academic institutes and key private sector leaders.The WE-Hub will be funded under the Atal Innovation Mission.

PM Modi inaugurates Hyderabad Metro Rail

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 30 km-long, first phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail between Miyapur and Nagole, at Miyapur station. PM Modi took a ride along with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in its maiden run. Minimum fare for a ride in Hyderabad Metro Rail is Rs 10 for two km and the maximum fare is Rs 60 for the entire stretch.

India’s largest consumer of electricity

Maharashtra stands as the single largest consumer of electricity in India, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Telangana. With the increasing demand, there was an increase of 8.6% over the demand for 69,216 MU in the year ago. The report was published by Central Electricity Authority.

Mahender Reddy is new DGP

Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy is appointed as DGP of Telangana. Mr. Reddy will be the second DGP of Telangana state carved out in 2014. He will succeed Anurag Sharma. Mr. Sharma was appointed advisor to the Home department. Mr. Reddy got selected for IPS while pursuing M.Tech. in IIT Delhi. He served as Assistant SP of Godavarikhani in Karimnagar and Guntur town.

Urdu as 2nd Official Language: Telangana

11 : Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao declared Urdu as the state’s second official language. Every office in the state will now have an Urdu speaking officer. According to the CM, the demand to make Urdu a second language had been there for a long time.

Binoy Kumar appointed as Sp Secretary

On 6th November 2017, senior IAS officer Binoy Kumar was appointed as Special Secretary in the Commerce Ministry. Binoy Kumar is a 1983 batch IAS officer of the Telangana cadre. He was the Director General of Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D), the procurement arm of the central government that was closed on 31st October 2017.

24-hour power supply to farm sector

Telangana govt will soon start supplying 24-hour “quality” & uninterrupted power on an experimental basis to the farm sector across the entire state. The rollout is in anticipation of all 31 districts getting continuous electricity supply from March-April 2018. For supplying power for 24 hours to the farm sector, Rs12,000 crore has been spent to strengthen the distribution & supply systems.

BHEL starts execution of Yadadri plant

BHEL announced that it has commenced execution of Yadadri supercritical thermal power project ordered by the Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Ltd. Project is located at Damaracherla in Nalgonda district of Telangana. This is the single largest order for BHEL so far. BHEL is already executing 800 MW Kothagudem and 1,080 MW Bhadradri power projects.

Mega textile park in Warangal

Telangana CM K Chandrasekhara Rao laid the foundation stone for the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park. It is a fibre-to-fabric integrated textile cluster proposed to be built on 1,200 acres of land in the Warangal district. This is going to be one of the largest textile parks in the country.

5 Students Selected For NASA Challenge

Five students from Warangal, Telangana have been selected to take part in the 5th annual NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge. The challenge has been scheduled to be held in April 2018 in the US. For selection in the final challenge, these students had to submit a moon buggy design report that make their buggy work on the surface of the moon, ensuring the safety of its passengers.

e-waste management policies of Telangana

12 : The Telangana government has announced two new policies focussing on Internet of things and e-waste. These are part of the 10 major focus areas of the state’s IT policy, launched last year. The IoT policy is focussed on developing smart city solutions, medical health IoT, smart logistics and agri-tech.

Largest fulfillment center in Hyderabad

Amazon has announced the opening of its largest fulfillment center in the country in Hyderabad. Located at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, the center covers over 400,000 sq ft with close to 2.10 million cubic ft. It is the 5th fulfillment center in Telangana & the largest in India. The center will enable sellers to use local infrastructure, save capital and help them grow their businesses

Tejasvi Duduka wins US Open

Tejasvi Duduka from Hyderabad won the women’s singles of U.S. Open Grand Slam Carrom tournament. Earlier, she had won the Telangana State Women’s singles title in Nizamabad. In the men’s singles, Vemuri Anil Kumar of India finished runner up for the second year in the U.S Open. It was won by former National Champion Radhakrishnan.

Microsoft ties up with Telengana

4 : Telangana govt has signed an agree-ment with Microsoft India to adopt cloud-based analytics solution for Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram. It will also use of Microsoft Intelligent Network for Eyecare, the artificial intelligence platform with multiple stakeholders, for eye screening. Telangana will become the first state in India to bring AI in public health screening.

Developed by the State Information Technology, E&C department, ‘Janahitha’, an integrated grievance redressal management system aims at expediting complaint resolution through continuous monitoring at a centralised cell. The District Revenue Officer will head the monitoring cell.

Cap On Weight Of School Bags

Telangana govt has put a cap on the weight of bags carried by school children from primary to Class X. According to the order maximum weight of a school bag with textbooks and notebooks should not exceed 1.5 kg for Class 1 and II and 2 to 3 kg for Classes III to V. School children were currently carrying bags weighing from 6 kg to 12 kg at primary level and up to 17 kg at high school level.

Agriculture budget from next year

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to present a separate agriculture budget from next year. He also asked the officials to form farmers’ associations at various levels. – from villages to the state to organise the cultivators. Farmers would also be provided training of modern and scientific methods of farming so as to increase the farm output.

51st Annual DGPs Conference Concluded

The 51st Annual Conference of Directors-General of Police of States was held in Hyderabad, Telangana. The three day conference was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. It was attended by around 100 DGPs of states, Director Generals of Central paramilitary forces & their Inspectors General. The Conference focused on cross-border terrorism, infiltration & radicalisation of youth.

Hyderabad to host World Congress on Information Technology in 2018

Hyderabad will host the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in 2018. This will be the first WCIT to be held in India and the theme of the 2018 WCIT will be Future of enterprises. As part of this, the Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao would visit the US, the UK and other countries to invite the bigwigs of the IT industry to the 2018 event. WCIT 2016 is to be held in Brazil. In 2014, the 19th WCIT was held in Guadalajara in Mexico. The theme was Building the Digital Age Together. The first WCIT was held in 1978 and it is held since then every two years.

BHEL bags first key power project in Telangana

BHEL will set up first Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in newly formed state of Telangana. The company has bagged contract worth Rs. 3,810 crore. The order is for setting up the 1×800 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Plant on EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) basis at Kothagudem in Khammam District of Telangana.
