University of Houston signs MoU with IIPE

The University of Houston has signed a MoU with the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) to build scientific and technical knowledge through joint research. It covers key areas of possible collaboration in faculty exchanges, offshore and onshore petroleum engineering and process control systems. The MoU also covers possible student exchanges for short-term visits and learning.

Govt agrees with Google for flood forecasting

Central Water Commission, India’s apex technical organization in the field of Water Resources, has entered into a Collaboration Agreement with Google. CWC would use state-of-the-art advances made by Google in the in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and geospatial mapping for effective management of water resources. It will give flood-related information to the masses.

Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2018

The Ministry of HRD along with AICTE, Persistent Systems, i4C and IIT Kharagpur is all set to host the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2018, Hardware edition from Jun 18-22, 2018. The Smart India Hackathon 2018 is in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Hardware edition is the first of its kind innovative initiative to provide a national platform to young technical minds of India.

India to host first BIMSTEC war games

India will host the first military exercise of the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) group focussing on counter-terrorism in September. The aim of the exercise is to promote strategic alignment among the member-states and to share best practices in the area of counter-terrorism. The exercise is scheduled to be held in Pune.

UNICEF launched data visualisation app

UNICEF has launched a ‘data visualisation app’ which provides a user-friendly visual representation of complex analytics of the education scenario in the country. The app has been made with technical inputs from UNICEF, in collaboration with NIEPA and NCERT. UNICEF aims to provide humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries.

AYUSH to be adopted as a word

Commission for Scientific & Technical Terminology has decided to adopt the acronym “AYUSH” as a word, both in English & Hindi languages, for scientific and technical purposes. AYUSH became popular as the acronym for 5 traditional systems of medicine – Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. CSTT adopted the acronym as a word based on a proposal of the Ministry of AYUSH

Nepal to hold BIMSTEC 2018

Nepal’s PM, KP Oli has announced to host the 2018 Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical& Economic Cooperation summit. BIMSTEC is an international organisation of 7 nations of South & South East Asia, including Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan & Nepal. BIMSTEC aims to enhance technological & economic cooperation among South & South East Asian countries.

Bihar, NE states recommended for Ranji Trophy

Sourav Ganguly-led technical committee of BCCI has unanimously recommended reinstatement of Bihar & inclusion of northeastern states in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy.The northeastern states played BCCI U-19 tournaments last season as the Board wanted to gradually integrate them into the system. Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season is proposed to have 4 Groups with the introduction of pre-quarterfinals.

Mechanism to address taxpayers grievances

The government will put in place an IT-Grievance Redressal Mechanism to address the difficulties faced by a section of taxpayers owing to technical glitches on the GST portal.The IT Grievance Redressal committee will examine and approve the solutions for an identified issue. If a taxpayer faces problem due to failure of power supply, this mechanism shall not be available.

India and ADB signed Loan Agreement

28 : The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and India signed $80 million loan to help modernize technical and vocational education and training institutions ecosystem in Himachal Pradesh. The Project will establish a polytechnic for women, 6 city Livelihood Centers, and 7 Rural Livelihood Centers. The project will support the skill initiatives of Government of Himachal Pradesh.

CISF launched lost and found app for airports

CISF launched its lost and found mobile app for passengers at 59 airports across India. The app, named UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance), offers three facilities – lost and found items at airports, tracking complaints or request status and technical consultancy in security and fire services. The CISF had in 2015 launched a lost and found section on its website.
