Narang-Ghatkar win silver medal in shooting

Gagan Narang combined with Pooja Ghatkar to win the mixed team silver medal in the Grand Prix of Liberation international shooting competition in Pilsen, Czech Republic. Earlier in the tournament, Mihika Poore bagged the women’s air rifle gold. Nivetha Paramanantham clinched the gold medal in the women’s air pistol after topping the qualification.

Indian fencer won silver medal at Reykjavik

India’s CA Bhavani Devi won a silver medal in the sabre event of the Tournoi World Cup Satellite Fencing Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland.Bhavani Devi had won a gold medal at the Reykjavik tournament last year to become the first Indian to do so in an international fencing event. The Tamil Nadu fencer defeated USA’s Alexis Browne in the final.

Kaushik won silver at CWG 2018

Manish Kaushik became the first Indian boxer to win silver medal in the men’s lightweight category (60 kg) at the Commonwealth Games.The 22-year-old boxer from Haryana settled for silver after losing to Australia’s Harry Garside at Gold Coast.India has won two gold, two silver and three bronze medals in boxing at the CWG 2018 so far.

Babita won silver medal at CWG

12 : Babita Phogat won the silver medal in wrestling at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.Babita claimed a silver in the 2010 edition before a gold in Glasgow. Her medal opened India’s account in the wrestling competition of the Games.

Manu Bhaker secures 10m Air Pistol gold

Manu Bhaker secured India‘s second individual gold at the ISSF Junior World Cup. India tasted success in the 10m air pistol men‘s event too with Gaurav Rana winning a silver medal. Bhaker, Rana and Mahima Turhi Agrawal also brought India on top of the team podium

PV Sindhu to be India?s flag-bearer

Olympic silver-medalist PV Sindhu will be the flag-bearer of Indian contingent for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. It would be the first time in last 3 editions of Commonwealth Games that a badminton player would don the flag-bearer‘s hat. At 2014 Glasgow CWG, Olympics silver medallist shooter Vijay Kumar was handed the responsibility of flag-bearer.

Tommy Haas announced his retirement

Former world number two tennis player Tommy Haas officially announced his retirement from tennis. Haas, who won the silver medal for Germany at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, finished his career with 569 wins. His most recent singles titles came in 2013 when he won in Vienna and Munich. Haas reached a career-high number two ranking in 2002, and finished eight seasons ranked in the top 20.

Navjot Kaur climbs to World No. 2

Navjot Kaur became World No. 2 in the 65 kg category as per the latest rankings released by United World Wrestling. The top position belongs to 2015 World Championship silver medallist Petra Olli of Finland though both have 18 points each. Vinesh Phogat is No. 2 in the 50kg category behind Lei Chun of China, while Sakshi Malik is No. 4 in the 62 kg category.

Australia lifted Sultan Azlan Shah cup

World champions Australia has lifted the coveted Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey title by outplaying England 2-1 in the finals. Australia has now won the prestigious tournament for the 10th time. England had to settle with the silver medal while Argentina claimed the bronze medal. India finished a disappointed fifth in the six-nation tournament.

Strandja Memorial Tournament

Amit Panghal claimed his second consecutive international gold but MC Mary Kom settled for silver in the 69th Strandja Memorial boxing tournament for men and women in Sofia, Bulgaria.Amit (49kg), who fetched the top honours at last month’s India Open, defeated Morocco’s Said Mordaji. Seema Poonia (+81kg) also claimed silver by defeating Russia’s Anna Ivanova.
