Croatia captain Luka Modric has won the FIFA Golden Ball for the best player at the World Cup 2018. England national football captain Harry Kane was awarded the Golden Boot for scoring most goals (6) in FIFA World Cup 2018. Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois won the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper of FIFA World Cup 2018.

Angelique Kerber wins Wimbledon 2018

Angelique Kerber became the first German woman to win Wimbledon in 22 years since Steffi Graf after she defeated Serena Williams in the finals. Kerber is just the second player to beat Serena in multiple Major finals after Venus Williams. It was Kerber’s third title at the majors to add to her Australian Open and US Open triumphs in 2016.

Dhoni played 500 international matches

The Indian team’s senior-most player Mahendra Singh Dhoni reached the coveted milestone of playing 500 international matches during the second T20 International against England. In doing so, Dhoni became the third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar (664) and Rahul Dravid (509) to breach the 500 match barrier in international cricket. He has played 90 Test matches and 318 One Day Internationals.

ICICI’s mortgage portfolio crosses 1.5 tn

ICICI Bank has announced that its mortgage loan portfolio crossed the Rs 1.5-trillion milestone. This made it the largest private player in the segment, and the lender is targeting to grow it to Rs 2 trillion by FY20. At Rs 1.5 trillion, the mortgage loan-book is half of the bank’s overall retail loan portfolio of around Rs 3 trillion.

Brooks Koepka wins US open 2018

Brooks Koepka wins US Open 2018 by defeating Tommy Fleetwood at Shinnecock Hills becoming first player in 3 decades to successfully defend his title. Earlier the record was in name of Curtis Strange who won back to back titles in 1988 and 1989. The victory comes less than 2 months after Koepka returned from left wrist injury that kept him out of action since Jan 2018.

Smriti Mandhana’s maiden Kia Super League

Indian T20I vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is set to become the first Indian to play in the Kia Super League (KSL), England’s domestic women’s T20 competition. Mandhana was selected by the “Western Storm” as their second overseas player. In 2017, Harmanpreet Kaur was picked by the Surrey Stars.

Pant named Emerging Player of IPL 11

Delhi Daredevils wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant was named Emerging Player of IPL 11. Sunil Narine also picked up two awards — Super Striker and Valuable Player. Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson (735 runs) got the Orange Cap while Kings XI pacer Andrew Tye (24 wickets) got the Purple Cap.

Real Madrid won the 2017–18 Champions League

Real Madrid have claimed yet another Champions League title by beating Liverpool FC 3-1 in the final. It is the third consecutive year that Real Madrid have won the tournament and the fourth such in five years, taking their total tally to a record 13 titles. Madrid’s Gareth Bale became the first player ever to come on as a substitute and score twice in a European Cup/Champions League final.

Messi won European Golden Shoe

Barcelona striker Lionel Messi has won his 5th European Golden Shoe after his team defeated Real Sociedad in their final La Liga match of the season. Messi won the award with 34 goals, for a total of 68 points during the 2017-18 season. Messi is the only player to have won the European Golden Shoe 5 times. 4-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo finished 9th after scoring 26 goals for Real Madrid.

TN to build India’s next generation aircraft

The Aeronautical Development Agency has set the ball rolling for building the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft by extending an invitation to private players in Tamil Nadu (TN). It is the first time an indigenous military aircraft programme is seeing the involvement of private players. It is also the first time a defence plane development project is proposed to be executed outside Bengaluru.
