World’s First All-Digital Art Museum at Tokyo

The world’s first digital art museum opened at the MORI Building Digital Art Museum in Tokyo, a collaboration between the developer and art collective TeamLab. Owing to projection-mapping technology, the artworks react to movement and touch, inviting visitors to imagine they possess new superpowers. In 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics visitors to Tokyo will experience something unique.

Ramdev to get wax statue at Madame Tussauds

Baba Ramdev will soon have a wax replica at the Madame Tussauds museum of London. Baba Ramdev will be the second saint to be depicted at the notable wax museum after Swami Vivekanand. Madame Tussauds is a major tourist attraction in London, displaying the waxworks of famous and historic people and also popular film characters.

Yoga Day celebrated with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar inaugurated International Day of Yoga in the Netherlands. It was held at Museumplein or museum square which was organised by the Embassy of India. He was joined by Dutch Minister of Infrastructure Cora van Nieuwenhuizen and Ambassador of India to the Netherlands Venu Rajamon.

National Tribal Museum to be built

A National Tribal Museum along with a National Level Tribal Research Institute is proposed to be set up at Delhi by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The Minister of Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram said that the Museum will showcase the rich tribal culture and heritage using state-of-the-art technologies. The proposal to set up the Museum and TRI has already been sent to the Niti Ayog.

India to get its 1st police museum in Delhi

India will get its first national police museum in Lutyens Delhi, a senior official said. The museum, which will depict the history of central and state police forces, will come up as an underground facility in the premises of the National Police Memorial. It will be inaugurated on Police Commemoration Day, which is held on October 21.

Tree museum in Vadodara

A landfill site in Gujarat’s Vadodara has been converted into a tree museum. The municipal corporation planted over 12,000 saplings of nearly 100 varieties in an area of 50,000 square metres. Gardening on the site, which is reportedly worth ?250 crore, began in 2016 after locals complained of the bad smell emanating from the landfill.

Govt forms 3 key panels for PM’s museum

6 : In a major push towards setting up a unique museum in Delhi on the ‘Prime Ministers of India’, the Culture Ministry has formed three high-powered panels that will work to implement the project. One committee will focus on project implementation. While the other two will concentrate on choice and development of content for museums.

PM Modi, Hasina inaugurate Bangladesh Bhavan

Prime Minister Modi & his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Bangladesh Bhavan in Santiniketan, West Bengal. Bangladesh Bhavan features a museum that showcases renowned poet Rabindranath Tagore’s association with that country, the Liberation War of Bangladesh & Indo-Bangla relations. It has been built at a cost of Rs. 25 crores, which was provided by Bangladesh government.

PM Modi to visit Indonesia

PM Modi will be visiting Indonesia on May 29-31 with an aim of working together with Indonesia to strengthen the strategic partnership between both the nations. During the visit, major areas of cooperation will be in the field of space, security & defence. An insect museum which is fully dedicated to insects and is claimed to be the first of its kind in the country was opened in Tamil Nadu. It would display insects preserved as specimens as also live ones depicting their different developmental stages, images, videos and models of their unique behaviour, habits and habitats. Google doodle celebrates Pi Day

Google has dedicated a doodle to mark 30 years of ‘Pi Day’, a day first recognised by physicist Larry Shaw in 1988 to honour the mathematical constant. Pi is used in every field of science as it‘s used for calculations involving the volume and surface area of spheres. The first Pi Day was held at a San Francisco Science Museum in 1988.

First museum dedicated to female artist

Iran has opened its first museum dedicated to a solo female artist – Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, who received widespread international attention during decades of exile.The institution will showcase fifty works from the ninety-three-year-old artist’s personal collection.The Monir Museum is located in in the historic Negarestan Museum Park Gardens, a former Qajar-era palace complex.

Justin Bieber’s wax figure in Delhi

Madame Tussauds India unveiled a statue of Grammy award-winning singer Justin Bieber in a mini preview at The Grub Festival. In the festival visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the figures of celebrities, which is a unique part of the show. The final display of all statues at the wax museum will take place on Dec. 1.

TU142M aircraft museum in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the TU142M aircraft museum in Vishakhapatnam. This is being built at the Beach Road in Vishakhapatnam. The Russian aircraft TU142M was decommissioned at INS Rajali in Tamil Nadu after 29 years. It was brought to Visakhapatnam on 8th April 2017 to be converted into a Museum.

Gandhi museum inaugurated in Durban

On 18th October 2017, Gandhi museum was inaugurated on a piece of land once owned by Mahatma Gandhi in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. The museum will reflect the life and universal influence of Mahatma Gandhi. The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Trust has constructed this museum. An exhibition titled ‘Gandhi in Durban’ has been set up at the museum by the Durban Local History Museum.

More antiques for Pudukkottai Museum

The over 100 year-old Govt. Museum at Pudukkottai will soon have additional antique items in its rich and varied collectioins. A host of ancient bronze idols are set to became added attractions at the museum a repositary of prized exhibits. Twenty-seven bronze idols have been shifted from the Madurai museum to the Pudukkottai museum for public display. The idols of varied sizes belong to different periods, ranging from the 12th century to the 15th century. The ‘Saivite’ idols of deities to be showcased include those of Somaskandar, Natarajar, Kaali and Chandrasekhar. The ‘Vaishnavite’ idols include deities of Vishnu and Krishna , besides that of Sathyabhama. The bronze idols are of one-and-half to three feet height, say museum authorities.

Another milestone for Ilaiyaraja

A musical journey that began in 1976 with ‘Annakili’ is all set to reach a milestone, 38 years later. Music Director Ilaiyaraja will soon be composing music for his 1000th film, ‘Thaara Thappattai”. The films director Bala revealed this recently, much to the delight of the maestro’s fans who assembled at Thamukkam grounds in Madurai. The event-launch of the official Ilayaraja fan club-was telecost by a Tamil entertainment Channel on Tamil New Year Day.

Mamallapuram gets lighthouse museum

Yet another tourist attraction, a lighthouse heritage museum, was added to the world-renowned, historical tour of Mamallapuram. Inaugurating the facility – comprising heritage and marine museums. Union shipping minister G.V. Vasan said it was the first of its kind in the country and had been set up by the directorate general of light houses and lightships. The museum houses miniatures of different kinds of ships, fishing boats and defence vessels, and also porclain containers, medicine box and crockery with departmental emblem supplied to light-keepers to use in different lighthouses. The open space in the complex, part of which has green cover, has been utilised for installation of specimens of ships and a deep-sea channel marking buoy among other ships. The students entry fee to ` 5, and the museum would be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 1.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

India’s first heritage transport museum opens near Gurgaon, in Tarou, which will showcase history of transportation in India.

New High Court Museum

Nine months after work began on the new museum on the Madras High Court premises, about 70 per cent of the construction work is complete. Officials of PWD will now set in motion interior works including, glazed-lited flooring and airconditioning. Besides this, work on setting up display cases and arranging illumination of the entire museum complex will also be taken up. Experts from the school of Architecture and Planning Anna University, have been roped in to provide designs. So far, we have completed the basic civil work. We are expecting to complete the entire project, including an auditorium in the same complex, by early next year”, said a PWD official.

Experts meet discuss ways to restore art gallery

The experts’ committee constituted by the state govt. for preservation and conservation of the 104 year old National Art Gallery (NAG) building on the campus of the Govt. Museum, has prescribed a host of works to be carried out immediately. The allotment of ` 11 crore for the restoration of the heritage building.

Photography exhibition at Fort museum

A week-long photo exchibition on world heritage monuments in the country will be organised by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Chennai Circle, at Fort Museum in Fort St. George between November 19 and 25. The exhibition is part of heritage week celebrations. ASI will also exhibit the proposed tentative list of world heritage monuments at Chennai Central suburban railway station, as part of the cultural awareness programme.

Madras Light comes along way

The first lighthouse of the city known as Madras Light, was built in 1796 on the roof of the Exchange (now the museum) building in Fort St. George Standing proud at 99 feet above sea level, it was a rather primitive apparatus comprising 12 lamps burning coconut oil and small country reflective mirrors that guided sailors in distress on the high seas. by 1837, the number of ships anchoring off the First Line Beach increased and the lighthouse had to be shifted to a more convenient place. In 1841, Captain J.E. Smith designed the city’s second lighthouse at Esplanade, a 120 feet tall Doric column, whose ornamental structure stands in the Madras High Court complex till data.

Museum of modern art to come up in Kolkata

Modern art is a creative activity “the beginning of which we are aware of but we do not know where it will end – where the brush speaks for itself,” said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, She was speaking before laying the foundation stone for the Kolkata Museum of Modern Act (KMOMA) in the New Town, Rajarhat area. Once completed, the KMOMA building would comprise 44 galleries.

Yasin said that the inspiration to learn Carnatic music came from her father, M. Kamal Basha, popularly known as Gujinis` in the local Carnatic music circle.

Ramaiyah Pillai gave life to Bharatanatyam

Rich tributes were paid to Vazhuvoor B. Ramaiah Pillai, renowned Bharatanatyam Guru, on his centenary celebrations. Speaking on the occasion, N. Murali, President, Music Academy, said the grace and subtlety of Ramaiyah Pillai set him apart as a Natyacharya. He expanded the repertoire of Bharatanatyam by introducing many items from Tamil literature. He took the dance form to the big screen and popularized it. Recalling his association with Ramayah Pillai in the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram, Mr. Gokulakrishna said the dance guru was very proud of his vocation. The art form would help in inculcating good habits among children, which elevated the body and soul of the learners. Old Tamil film songs choreogrophed by Ramaiyah Pillai were screened at the venue on the occasion.

Ammonite fossil on display at Govt. Museum

Unlike most other days when there are strict restrictions on even louching the glass cases enclosing the delicate specimen on display, this week, visited at the Govt. Museum Egmore will have a different experience. The ammonite fossil on display as the `Exhibit of the week; a somewhat greyish spiral rock of two feet diameter is from Ariyalur, Tiruchi and beleived to be one of the Cephalopods that first appeared in the seas 415 million years ago.

Bidriware, exhibit of the week

A large cylindrical box with a dome-shaped lid used to store jewellary during the Bahamani reign is the exhibit of the week at the Govt. Museum, Egmore. This casket is a storehouse of history, tradition and most of all intricate craftsmanship. Bidriware is a metal handicraft that originated in Bidar, Karnataka in the 14th Century C.E. “The metal used is a blackened alloy of zinc and copper inlaid with thin sheets of pure silver”, said curator A. Prema Deeparani.
