Karnataka to set up five tech innovation hubs

18 : Karnataka’s first ‘K-Tech Innovation Hub’ was inaugurated in Belagavi by K J George, Karnataka Minister for IT/BT & ST. The K-Tech Innovation Hub backed by providing space and infrastructure, prototyping facilities and a world-class innovation network. The K-Tech Innovation hub leverages the globally connected ecosystem & brings infrastructure similar to the MIT Fab Lab to Belagavi.

8th India-Oman Joint Meeting Begins in Muscat

Gujarat to form Sanskrit Bhasha Vikas Board

The Sanskrit language, the state government has decided to form the Sanskrit Bhasha Vikas Board. The decision was announced by state education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama at an event held at the Gujarat University. The university has started a dedicated centre for spoken Sanskrit and also plans to celebrate Sanskrit Utsav.

Odisha Govt constitutes Heritage Cabinet

The Odisha Government constituted Heritage Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to preserve the history and culture of Odisha. The Cabinet comprises eight members, including the Chief Minister. While the Chief Secretary will be Secretary of Heritage Cabinet, Secretary in the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture will be the convenor.

Sushma Swaraj embarks two-day visit to Manama

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will today embark on a two-day visit to Manama to co-chair the second High Joint Commission meeting with her Bahraini counterpart Shaikh Al Khalifa. Mrs Swaraj will inaugurate the new Chancery building complex and address the Indian community. The visit is expected to provide an opportunity to identify new areas of cooperation between both countries.

4th National Conclave on Mines & Minerals

The Ministry of Mines organized the 4th National Conclave on Mines & Minerals on 13th July 2018 at Indore. CM of MP, Shri Shivraj Singh was the chief guest of the conclave. Also, an app of NALCO – NAMASYA was launched by the Ministers. For the first time, the conclave had an exhibition in which States put up stalls to showcase their more than 100 mineral blocks which were in the auction.

Gadkari inaugurates projects in Vizag

13 : Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways will inaugurate five port projects worth Rs 1062 Crores in Vishakhapatnam (Vizag). The major project to be inaugurated includes upgradation of existing iron ore handling facility at Outer Harbour of Vizag Port at a cost of ` 580 Crores. This will enhance the capacity of Vizag port under Sagarmala Project.

16th Workshop On Greenhouse Gas Inventories

A four-day Workshop has been organized by the Ministry of Environment, Govt of Japan from July 10 to 13, 2018 in New Delhi. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Harshvardhan, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Earth Sciences. The workshop included policy initiatives of the government to increase penetration of LEDs, 5-10% Ethanol blending in petrol.

UK’s Brexit minister resigns

Britain’s Brexit minister David Davis has resigned from the Cabinet stating policy differences over PM Theresa May’s exit plan from the European Union. It is a blow to May as she seeks to win over Eurosceptic MPs to her proposed Brexit vision, which would form the basis of UK’s position in ongoing talks with EU. Junior minister for housing Dominic Raab will be Britain’s new Brexit minister.

LG has no independent decision-making power and cannot behave as an obstructionist. Except for the three issues, including land, law and order, Delhi government should be allowed to legislate. Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani and Israel’s Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Uri Ariel and announced a joint working group in the fields of agriculture and allied sectors. The initiative is taken as a step to double the farmers’ income by 2022. This Agriculture Plan would also explore opportunities for using the hi-tech protective cultivation and precision farming methods of Israel.

Hyderabad to have UAE consulate

CM Rao has discussed with Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to come up with a consulate in Hyderabad. The consulate will further strengthen ties between Telangana and UAE. The minister also lauded various achievements of Telangana government by creating Asia’s biggest lift irrigation project at Kaleshwaram.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj launched Mobile Passport Application on the occasion of 6th Passport Seva Divas on 26 June 2018 in New Delhi. Through mPassportSeva app, people can apply for a passport from any part of the country. Police verification will be done on the address, provided by the applicant on the app, another step towards simplification of passport service to people.

India-US 2+2 Dialogue

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold talks with their American counterparts Mike Pompeo and James Mattis. The maiden India-US 2+2 Dialogue will be held on July 6, 2018. The key issues that would be discussed would include counterterrorism, cybersecurity, defence cooperation, and regional security.

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the National Digital Library of India. The library will become a single window platform for all educational needs. Users can register for free on the National Digital Library from Google Play store. Railways to become net zero carbon emitter

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Indian Railways will become a net zero-carbon emitter by 2030 with the current action plans for 100% electrification and renewable strategies. Adding that the electrification in 2017-2018 has increased seven times. The minister also said that the railways would procure around 100,000 additional wagons over the next five years.

Workshop on Cyber Security Framework 2018

The framework is in line with guidelines for organisations to target the area of cyber security and identify improvements in the area. India, Italy agreed to revitalise ties

India and Italy agreed to boost cooperation in counter-terrorism and cybersecurity as External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met the top Italian leadership and discussed steps to revitalise bilateral ties. It was the first major political exchange between the two countries. Ms. Swaraj is there on the first leg of her seven-day tour of four European countries.

7th OPEC international Seminar

121.4 Cr Aadhar Card generated till June 2018

According to a report, nearly 121.4 crore aadhar cards have been generated till 16 June 2018. The IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also revealed that nearly 22.5 crore handsets are manufactured each year with a value of Rs. 1.32 lakh crore. The Unified Mobile Application for New Age Governance (UMANG) app also saw 64 lakh downloads which is a great achievement.

Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has announced PhD degree will be mandatory for direct recruitment to the post of assistant professors in central universities from 2021. However, Masters degree with National Eligibility Test would continue to be the minimum criteria. The ministry has also decided to scrap Academic Performance Indicator system, used to promote teachers.

New Telecom Policy by July

Communications minister Manoj Sinha has announced that new telecom policy is likely to be in place by July 2018. The government on May 1 had released the draft National Telecom Policy 2018 aiming to attract investment of $100 billion (roughly Rs. 6.7 lakh crores) in the Digital Communications sector. Govt. also aims to reform the licencing and regulatory regime to promote ease of business.

Sikkim got its longest tunnel

Minister of State for Defence, Dr, Subhash Bhamre has dedicated a highway tunnel at Theng near Chungthang in north Sikkim to the nation. The tunnel will benefit the tourism and rapidly propel the growth of the state. The double-lane tunnel stretching about 600 meters has been constructed by the Border Roads Organisation at cost of over 42 crore rupees.

‘Cramped’ NCERT syllabus to be reduced to half

Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has said NCERT syllabus will be reduced to half as it is presently “cramped”. The government is considering 37,000 suggestions to ensure that students get time to focus on activities other than learning information. The government will also provide funds to schools for procuring sports equipment and library books.

DAC approves procurement of equipments

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, approved the procurement of equipment valued at over Rs 6,900 crore. This includes Thermal Imaging Night Sights for the Rocket Launcher for accurate targeting of enemy bunkers. The DAC, under the Defence Minister was constituted for overall guidance of the defence procurement planning process.

Approval for central university in Andhra

The Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of a central university in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said. A provision of ?450 crore has been approved for the first phase of establishing the university. Andhra Pradesh had been left with no central university following its division into two states in 2014.

India to attend SCO Culture Ministers’ meet

The Minister of State for Culture Dr. Mahesh Sharma will be attending Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Cultural Ministers Meeting at Sanya in China. Govt departments earmark Rs 16,500 cr for SBM

A sum of Rs 16,500 cr has been earmarked by 71 ministries & departments of the govt for implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in 2018-19. The amount is over & above the budget of Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation for SBM (Gramin) & Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs for SBM (Urban). SBM aims to clean up the streets, roads & infrastructure of India’s cities & rural areas.

India and Myanmar sign 7 agreements

India & Myanmar have signed 7 agreements during the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s visit to Myanmar. The 7 agreements signed included one on land border crossing that will enable people from both countries to cross the land border with passport & visa for accessing health & education services. MoU on training of Myanmar foreign service officers was also signed during the meeting.

Apex Conference for the CEOs of Smart Cities

Kavinder Gupta is new deputy CM of J&K

Former Jammu and Kashmir speaker Kavinder Gupta took oath as a minister in the Mehbooba Mufti government. Gupta took oath as the deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, replacing BJP’s Nirmal Singh, who will now become the assembly speaker. Kavinder Gupta is a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Gandhinagar constituency in Jammu district.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs (I/C) launched a Mobile App (m-Awas) for allotment of Government accommodations in General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA).The application has been developed by NIC. The dedicated application of online allotment i.e. e-Awas will support this App. The app is user friendly and can be made operative from an android mobile phone.

World’s first female foreign ministers meeting

Canada and the European Union will host the world’s first female foreign ministers’ meeting in September.Female foreign ministers from about 30 countries will be invited to the gathering, which is aimed at deepening global discussion on women’s empowerment. Oil, finance ministers can award oil blocks

The Cabinet allowed Ministers of Finance and Petroleum to award oil and gas blocks to winners in the ongoing auction.Till now, only the Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister had the powers to approve the award of a block or area for the exploration and production of oil and gas.The two Ministers will approve the award based on the recommendations of the Empowered Committee of Secretaries.

Foreign Secretary to visit B’desh

Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale is expected to meet his Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammad Shahidul Haque in Dhaka and discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties.Mr Gokhale is also likely to meet Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali. Khadi Store Locator App launched

The Minister of State for MSME, Giriraj Singh launched a mobile phone application for locating 4,000 Khadi stores in the country.There are more than 8,000 Khadi stores in India, the rest of stores will also be available on the store locator by the end of April. The Khadi and Village Industries products are manufactured by about 7 lakh privately owned household units.

Delhi-Pathankot flight under UDAN scheme

Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the first flight from Delhi to Pathankot at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.Pathankot airport was opened by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to improve regional connectivity as per the UDAN Scheme. Under UDAN, air connectivity is provided to unserved and underserved airports at a subsidized fare.

PM to inaugurate International Energy Forum

India will host the 16th International Energy Forum (IEF) Ministerial Meeting from 10-12th April 2018 in New Delhi.The biennial IEF Ministerial Meetings are the world’s largest gathering of Energy Ministers who engage in a dialogue on global energy issues. The IEF is an inter-governmental arrangement set up in 1991, based in Riyadh. There are 72 member countries of IEF, including India.

Initiatives for ease of exports launched

Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu launched digital initiatives for ease of exports.Under the digital initiatives, the Minister launched three portals, namely Safe Food Export Traceability Portal, One Laboratory One Assessment Portal and Monitoring Export Alerts Portal. The portals will bring together all regulators, accreditation bodies and other stakeholders at one place.

India-Japan-US trilateral talks in New Delhi

New Delhi will host the strategically important trilateral dialogue between India, Japan and the US on 4th April.The India-Japan-US trilateral was launched in December 2011. It was elevated to ministerial level in September 2015. The last ministerial dialogue was held in New York in September 2017.

Protem Chairman of LKA appointed

On the recommendation of the Minister of Culture, the President has appointed M L Srivastava, Joint Secretary (Akademies), Ministry of Culture as Protem Chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi (LKA).He will continue to hold the office till a regular chairman is appointed. He will replace CS Krishna Setty whose term has come to an end.

NMHEP project’s foundation stone laid

Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, laid the foundation stone of the 60 MW Naitwar Mori Hydro Electric Project (NMHEP) in Uttarkashi.NMHEP is located on the river Tons – a tributary of the Yamuna, in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. MoS VK Singh to leave for Iraq

Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh will leave for Iraq to bring back mortal remains of the 39 Indians killed by Islamic State terrorists in the war-torn country.As many as 40 Indians were abducted by terror group from Mosul in Iraq in June 2014, but one of them escaped posing as a Muslim from Bangladesh. The remaining 39 Indians were taken to Badoosh and killed.

9th India-Japan Strategic Dialogue in Tokyo

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj attended the 9th India-Japan Strategic Dialogue in Tokyo. Japanese FDI in India during 2016-17 was USD 4.7 billion, an increase of 80% over the last year. India‘s import from Japan for 2016-17 was USD 9.76 billion. India and Japan concluded a Special Strategic and Global Partnership during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Japan in 2014.

National Conference on Drug Law Enforcement

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir inaugurated the two-day first National Conference on Drug Law Enforcement in New Delhi. More than 50 State and Central law enforcement agencies involved in combating drug trafficking are participating in this Conference. The conference is being organised by India‘s nodal drug law enforcement agency, Narcotics Control Bureau.

Govt launches free wi-fi service in Udwada

The government has launched free wi-fi service for Sansad Adarsh Gram, Udwada in Valsad district of Gujarat. The village has been adopted by Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Smriti Irani under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. The free wi-fi service will be provided by BSNL in partnership with QuadGen. The wi-fi service will cover nearly 90% of the village.

Delhi Energy Dialogue 2018

Laboratory launched to monitor Loktak Lake

Manipur forest and environment minister, Thounaojam Singh launched a floating research laboratory of Institute of Bio-Resources and Sustainable Development at Sendra. Keibul Lamjao National Park, the only floating park in the world, is located in the lake. A water quality machine has been installed inside the boat to collect necessary data to check deteriorating eco-system of Loktak Lake.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Minister of State for Science and Technology Y.S.Chowdary of the Telugu Desam Party submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prabhu given charge of Aviation Ministry

10 : Commerce and Industries Minister Suresh Prabhu given additional charge of the Civil Aviation Ministry. The President, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed that Suresh Prabhu, Cabinet Minister, shall be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, in addition to his existing portfolio. Suresh Prabhu was the former Minister of Railways.

INSV Tarini reaches Cape Town

An all-women crew leading the INSV Tarini docked at a port in Cape Town in South Africa, in the last phase of its maiden voyage to circumnavigate the globe. This is the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew. The vessel is skippered by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman flagged-off the expedition from Goa on September 10.

Centre Approves ` 2900 Cr for Women Safety

Women and Child Development Ministry has approved projects worth over ` 2,900 crore under the Nirbhaya fund for eight major cities to make them safer for women. These cities are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. The decision was taken after a meeting of Empowered Committee, which is headed by Women and Child Development Secretary.

India’s 1st Ever Highway Capacity Manual

The Minister of Road Transport & Highways Mr Nitin Gadkari released India’s first ever Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) in Delhi.The manual is also known as Indo-HCM and it has been developed by CSIR. CSRI is developing it on the basis of an extensive, country-wide study of the traffic characteristics on different categories of roads like a single lane, two-lane, multi-lane urban roads etc.

PM Narendra Modi in Palestine

People blowed ‘shankh’ to create world record

A record was set on the second day of Rajim Kumbh Mela in Chhattisgarh after over 2,100 saints and locals blew ‘shankh’ (conch shells) together.Golden Book of World Records certified the record.Adding that the sound of conch shells soothed the environment, the state minister Brijmohan Agrawal said, “We wanted to send message of peace and prosperity.”

Swaraj to leave for Saudi Arabia

Reservation counters at post offices

The Indian Railways has signed an agreement with the Department of Posts to set up Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters at post offices across the country.Currently, around 280 post offices have PRS counters.The PRS counters in post offices will be opened in areas with no Railway Reservation Counters, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said.

HPC facility launched in Noida

Union Minister for Earth Science, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan dedicated the High-Performance Computer (HPC) System named ‘Mihir’.Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that with this facility, India’s capacity in weather forecasting will improve. The Minister said that the HPC facility will be India’s largest HPC facility in terms of peak capacity and performance.

Sushma Swaraj to visit Nepal

In a bid to revive ties with Nepal, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will visit Kathmandu from February 1 to 2.The visit comes weeks after Nepal elected a Leftist coalition, which won the first historic poll under the new Constitution of the country. Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri launched the ‘Protocol for Star Rating of Garbage-Free Cities’.The star-rating initiative, will rate cities on a seven-star rating system based on multiple cleanliness indicators for solid waste management. Cities can be rated as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 star based on their compliance with the protocol conditions.

Puducherry’s 1st POPSK at Karaikal

The first Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) of Puducherry was inaugurated by Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Minister for External Affairs at Karaikal.The POPSK at Karaikal is the 60th POPSK to have become functional since the launch of the scheme in January 2017. It is the first POPSK to become operational in the UT of Puducherry.

TN to host first ever Defence Expo

According to the Minister for Minority Affairs Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Saudi Arabia has given the green signal for India’s decision to revive the option of sending Haj pilgrims through sea route.The practice of ferrying Haj pilgrims between Mumbai and Jeddah by waterways was stopped from 1995. For the first time, Muslim women from India will go to Haj without “Mehram” (male companion).

30 : Defense Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman launches Start-up Incubation Centre in Mangalore.She has allocated Rs. 1.5 crore from her MPLAD (Member of Parliament’s Local Area Development) scheme for the development of a start-up incubation center called the Centre for Entrepreneurship Opportunities and Learning (CEOL) in Mangaluru.She represents Karnataka as an MP in the Rajya Sabha.
