Neeraj Chopra, India’s javelin star, struck Gold in the Meeting International de Sotteville-les-Rouen in France. Chopra’s throw of 85.17m was enough to clinch the top spot on the podium. The winning distance from Chopra was, however, less than the 86.47m he achieved for gold at Gold Coast CWG. Neeraj is a part of India’s squad for the Asian Games 2018.

Neeraj breaks own National record

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has broke his own national record by clearing a distance of 87.43m to finish 4th at the Diamond League series. Chopra, who recently won a gold at Commonwealth Games was up against the likes of Olympic champion Thomas Rohler &World champion Johannes Vetter. Chopra had set the earlier record of 86.48m when he won a gold medal in 2016 World Junior Championships.

Neeraj Chopra, 1st Indian to Win Gold in Javelin Throw

Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian javelin thrower to claim a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, with a season’s best effort of 86.47m in the final. The 20-year-old junior world champion had made the final after achieving the qualifying mark in his very first throw. Neeraj was favourite for gold after his 85.94m throw in March 2018 at Patiala during the Federation Cup National Championships.
