Nelson Mandela International Day 2018

Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honor of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s 1st black president which is celebrated each year on 18 July. The day was 1st celebrated as UN Mandela Day on 18 July 2010 and 2018 marks the 100th birth anniversary. Mandela is remembered for his anti-apartheid activities and fight against poverty and promoting justice for all.

International Day of Cooperatives 2018

The International Day of Cooperatives is an annual celebration of the co-operative movement, observed on the first Saturday in July since 1923. Observed on 7 July 2018 and theme was the ‘Sustainable societies through cooperation’. Co-operatives are committed to the sustainable development of communities – environmentally, socially and economically.

International Day against Drug Abuse

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed every year on 26 June to strengthen global action to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. The theme for the 2018 year is: “Listen First – Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe.” This day was first observed by the UN General Assembly in 1987.

National Awards for Prevention on Drug Abuse

President Kovind will present the 4th “National Awards for outstanding services in the field of Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drug) Abuse” on the occasion of ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ on 26th June. The function organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in New Delhi. The Awards were started in 2013 and conferred biennially.

PM Modi inaugurates nature center in New York

PM Modi inaugurated the ‘YO1 Nature Cure Center’ in the Catskills area of New York on the occasion of 4th International Day of Yoga. YO1, which means youthful in Sanskrit, is the first of its kind nature cure center in America located in Monticello in the scenic region of Catskills. The centre will be a wellness destination that will offer therapies based on ancient Indian Yoga and Pranayam.

Yoga World record created in Kota

Guinness world record was created by conducting the largest yoga session on International Yoga Day at Kota, Rajasthan where 1 lakh people together performed yogic exercises. Yoga guru Ramdev conducted the yoga session attended by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, ministers, officers and local people at RAC ground. The previous record was that of 55,524 people performing yoga in Mysore in 2017.

Yoga Day celebrated in Australian Parliament

A yoga session was organised in the Australian Parliament on Monday for the first time, with over 50 people performing various asanas in the federal legislature. This comes ahead of the fourth International Day of Yoga on June 21. Organisers of the session claimed it was the first time that the International Yoga Day was celebrated in any Parliament.

International day of UN Peacekeepers

International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is observed every year on May 29 to pay tribute to all men & women who have served & continue to serve in UN peacekeeping operations. Theme of International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2018 is UN Peacekeepers: 70 Years of Service & Sacrifice. So far India has taken part in 43 Peacekeeping missions with a total contribution exceeding 180,000 troops.

International Day for Biological Diversity

International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated annually on May 22 to make people aware of the importance of biodiversity issues. This date commemorates the date of Adoption of the Agreed Text of the Convention on Biological Diversity at Nairobi on 22 May 1992. Theme chosen for International Day for Biological Diversity 2018 is “Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity”.

International Day of Families

International Day of Families is observed on 15th of May every year to promote awareness of issues relating to families. This year the theme of the International Day of Families is “Families & inclusive societies”. The year 1994 was proclaimed as the International Year of Families by the UN. The symbol of International Day of Families consists of a solid green circle with an image in red.
