Assam’s first transgender judge Swati Baruah

The court in Guwahati has got the first transgender judge of Assam. Swati Bidhan Baruah has been appointed as a judge to mediate cases in Lok Adalat. She is the third transgender judge in the country and will mediate in pre-litigation cases related to finance companies. Joyita Mondal of West Bengal is India’s first transgender judge.

Dutee Chand sets new national record in 100m

Dutee Chand broke her 100m national record at 58th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships at Guwahati. The 22-year-old Dutee, representing Odisha, ran 11.29 sec in the semifinal race to better her national record of 11.30sec and later clinched the gold in 11.32sec. She has already qualified the 2018 Asian games which will be held in Jakarta and Palembang.

Guwahati-Barauni to get gas pipeline by 2021

Urja Ganga Natural Gas Pipeline has been extended till Guwahati by the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), the city will get gas pipeline by 2021. The 721-km pipeline project will connect Dhamra, Barauni, Paradip and Hadia and will extend to Guwahati. This is a 3000 crore project and would also be be extended to other Northeast locations, operational from 2023.

India’s first solar powered railway station

Guwahati now has India’s first railway station run by solar power. Around 2352 solar modules with a capacity of generating 700 kwp has been set up over the roof of the Guwahati railway station. The solar-powered station is aimed at reducing carbon-footprint as well as cut down power costs drastically. The solar power plant will save Rs 67 lakh worth of electricity.

Assam CM Launches Atal Amrit Abhiyan

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal launched the Atal Amrit Abhiyan in Guwahati. It is a health assurance scheme which will give comprehensive coverage for six disease groups. A total of 437 diseases will be covered under this scheme divided into six disease groups. This scheme will cover all individuals in eligible families with annual income below 5 lakh rupees
