Marc Marquez cruised to his ninth consecutive German Grand Prix win to extend his MotoGP lead at Sachsenring. The Marc Marquez has won in the top category for the last six years and before that won three times in the smaller classes. Rossi finished second and Maverick Vinales coming third.

Angelique Kerber wins Wimbledon 2018

Angelique Kerber became the first German woman to win Wimbledon in 22 years since Steffi Graf after she defeated Serena Williams in the finals. Kerber is just the second player to beat Serena in multiple Major finals after Venus Williams. It was Kerber’s third title at the majors to add to her Australian Open and US Open triumphs in 2016.

Twin spacecraft to track Earth’s water cycle

A joint U.S./German space mission to track the global water cycle was successfully lifted off on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment Follow-On, GRACE-FO, is a joint mission by NASA & German Research Centre for Geosciences. GRACE-FO will monitor the movement of mass around the earth by measuring where & how the moving mass changes Earth’s gravitational pull.

Bayern Munich won Bundesliga title

German giants Bayern Munich win sixth successive Bundesliga title after hitting Augsburg 4-1 at the Augsburg Arena.The result also means that Bayern is the German league champion for the 28th time in its history. The result leaves Bayern 20 points clear with five league games left and underlined their absolute dominance of the Bundesliga.

John Isner won Miami Open title

In Tennis, John Isner has lifted the Men’s Singles trophy of the Miami Open.John Isner defeated German’s Alexander Zverev. Following the win, 32-year old Isner, the world number 17, will now move back into the top 10 next week.

German President arrived in New Delhi

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in New Delhi on 22nd March for a five-day visit to India. This is his first visit to India as the President of Germany. Germany is India‘s largest trading partner in Europe and the sixth largest trading partner in the world. India was ranked 24th in Germany‘s global trade. Germany is the 7th largest foreign direct investor in India.

Germany running out of warships

The German Parliament’s Defence Committee has urged the Navy to stop deploying warships overseas, saying that the country does not have enough ships. Adding that several warships were already decommissioned due to their age, the committee blamed bureaucracy in the defence agencies as well as military contractors’ reluctance to supply necessary spare parts on time for the situation.

Julia Goerges wins Auckland Classic

Julia Goerges claimed a third-straight WTA title with victory over Caroline Wozniacki in the Auckland Classic final.In the final, Goerges was dominant against the top-seeded Dane by 6-4 7-6 (7-4). The German World No.14 broke in the first game of both sets to place early pressure on Wozniacki.

BMW to Recall 1.93 lakh Cars in China

German automaker BMW will recall 1,93,611 cars in China over a defect in their airbags. About 1,68,861 imported cars manufactured between December 9, 2005 and December 23, 2011 as well as 2,4,750 sedans will be recalled from August 1, 2017. When the driver and front passenger airbags of the affected vehicles inflate, the gas generators inside may become damaged and cause flying debris.
