China pledges 20 bn in loans for Arab states

China will provide Arab states with $20 billion in loans for economic development, as China seeks to build its influence in Middle East. The money will be earmarked for projects that will produce employment opportunities & positive social impact in Arab States. China is also prepared to provide another 1 billion yuan to countries in the region to build capacity for stability maintenance.

UP Government announced new policy

UP Government announced a new Defence Manufacturing Policy, called ‘UP Defence Aerospace Unit and Employment Generating Policy, 2018’. The policy is for the entrepreneurs who are willing to invest and would project an investment of ` 50,000 crores for upcoming 5 years. The policy is also expected to generate 2.5 lakh jobs

India’s 1st khadi mall in Jharkhand

India’s first khadi mall would come up in Jharkhand and would provide a major boost for khadi and other handicrafts industry. The Jharkhand Khadi Board would be providing people employment along with training, raw materials and machinery. Apart from this, the role of the urban market along with rural haats and tourists spots would also generate significant revenue.

Kerala govt signs MoU with Nissan

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Kerala government and Nissan officials to boost digital operations. The first phase of the digital hub will come up over 30 acres of land in Technocity, 20 kilometres outside Thiruvananthapuram. The company is looking at providing 500 direct jobs by the end of April 2019 with indirect employment for software development.

Meeting of stakeholders on ‘Samarth’ held

A meeting of stakeholders on Samarth – Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile Sector under the Skill India Mission was held on 14th May. The broad objective of the new scheme is to skill the youth for gainful and sustainable employment in the textile sector covering the entire value chain of textiles, excluding spinning and weaving. The scheme targets to train 10 lakh persons.

Sustainable practices can create jobs

India could witness the creation of more than 3 million jobs if it adopts sustainable practices for a green economy, the International Labour Organization said in the “World Employment and Social Outlook”. All sectors, except the mining industry, will experience an increase in employment. The transition to a green economy in India will inevitably cause job losses in certain sectors.

India’s best Gram Panchayat

West Bengal’s Digambarpur Gram Panchayat has bagged the Centre’s award for the best Gram Panchayat in the country.Of the 2.5 lakh gram panchayats in the country, the central government had selected 1000 and watched their function. The state of West Bengal is also in the top in generating rural employment across states.

India signs MoU with Republic of Korea

India signed a MoU with Korea on Mutual Recognition of Certificates of Competency of Seafarers.This paves the way for the two governments to mutually recognize the certificates of maritime education and training, competency, endorsements and medical fitness of seafarers issued by each other. The agreement will open up employment opportunities for Indian seafarers on Korean ships.

Cabinet approves NEIDS 2017

The Union Cabinet has approved the North East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS), 2017. In order to promote employment in the North East States, Government is incentivizing primarily the MSME Sector through this scheme. The newly introduced scheme shall promote industrialization in the States of the North Eastern Region and will boost employment and income generation.

Govt extends fixed-term employment facility

The government has extended the facility of hiring workers on fixed-term employment to all sectors for improving the ease of doing business for companies. This facility was available only to the apparel manufacturing sector as per the Industrial Establishment (Standing Order) 1946. The fixed term employment was defined as a workman who is employed on a contract basis for a fixed period.
