2021 census data to be stored electronically
The data collected in the 2021 Census will be stored electronically, the first time since the first decennial exercise in 1951 after independence. The schedules and other connected papers shall be disposed of totally or in part by the Director of Census Operations, after creating an electronic record of such documents. The spokesperson said enumerators would start “house listing” in 2020.

Do not appoint police officer as acting DGP
The Supreme Court restricted the choice of State governments to appoint their Directors General of Police. Instead, State governments should henceforth send their proposals for DGPs to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) three months before the incumbent is due to retire. The UPSC will prepare a panel of officers fit to be DGP in the State concerned and send them back.

World Bank extends $300 million credit

Kerala to get tribal instructors for literacy
In a first, Kerala government will rope in qualified tribal instructors to impart literacy in their respective settlements in a bid to improve literacy rates among tribal populations. The instructors will teach people who are above 15 years of age, Director of Kerala literacy mission PS Sreekala said. Around 370 instructors for 100 villages have been appointed for the initiative.

Corporation Bank reports fraud of 6.77 cr
The CBI has booked an auto dealer in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand for allegedly siphoning off the loan amount and causing a loss of Rs.6.77 crore to Corporation Bank. The agency has booked Ramnandi Estate and its directors along with the bank‘s valuer, Sanjay Kumar. Corporation Bank alleged that Kumar filed enhanced valuation reports based on which the loan was sanctioned.

Direct Tax Collection Rise 19.3% In April-Jan
Direct tax collections grew by nearly 20% between April and January this year with strong growth in both corporate and personal income tax receipts.According to official data released, net direct tax collections grew by 19.3% up to January 2018 to Rs 6.95-lakh crore. While net corporate income tax grew by 19.2%, personal income tax receipts rose by 18.6 per cent in January this year.
