Dhoni to be the brand ambassador of Netmeds

The company, which has positioned itself as ‘India ki Pharmacy’, chose Dhoni due to his strong appeal across all sectors and all demographics. Netmeds currently has an inventory of 35,000 stock keeping units (SKUs) of prescription drugs and 5,000 SKUs of OTC products.

England jump up to number one in ODI rankings

England has replaced India at the top of International Cricket Council one-day rankings. England, who last topped the ODI rankings in Jan 2013, has gained 8 points & moved to 125 points. India with 122 points is at the 2nd position followed by South Africa & New Zealand. England’s rise up the table is because the forgettable 2014-15 season was dropped from the latest calculations.

ICC scraped 50-over Champions Trophy

International Cricket Council has decided to convert the 2021 Champions Trophy, scheduled in India, into a World T20 event.Champions Trophy was the second-biggest 50-overs tournament after the World Cup. The number of teams competing varied over the years. This means that there would now be two ICC World T20 events in 2 years — the 2020 edition in Australia and the 2021 edition in India.

BCCI recommends Shikhar & Smriti for Arjuna

BCCI recommended Indian cricketers Smriti Mandhana and Shikhar Dhawan for the Arjuna Award.Shikhar Dhawan currently opens the innings for the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Sunrisers Hyderabad.Last year, the BCCI had recommended Cheteshwar Pujara and Harmanpreet Kaur for the award given by the Government of India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Kohli and Mithali voted world’s best

Indian captains Virat Kohli and Mithali Raj were named as the leading men’s and women’s cricketers in the world respectively by Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.Kohli won his award for the 2nd year in a row after again starring in all formats. Raj was acknowledged after a year in which she became the leading run-scorer in women’s One-Day Internationals during India’s run to the World Cup final.

2018 Asia Cup moved out from India to UAE

The 2018 Asia Cup, that was earlier scheduled to be held in India, has now been moved out to the United Arab Emirates.The decision was taken following a meeting of the executive board of the Asian Cricket Council held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and the winner of Asia Cup qualifier will compete in the 50-overs format event.

Most Capped Women’s ODI Cricketer

Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj has become the most capped player in women’s One-Day International (ODI) cricket.She achieved the feat (192 matches) during the first ODI against the England women at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Mithali surpassed England’s Charlotte Edwards, who retired in September 2017 with 191 ODIs under her belt.

Mithali Raj adjudged Sportsperson of the Year

Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj was adjudged ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ at the Telangana Sports Journalists Association annual awards for 2017.She is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and the only female cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run mark in ODIs. In December 2017, she was named as one of the players in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year.

Pathan joins J&K in player-cum-mentor role

Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association has appointed former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan as the coach-cum-mentor of its senior state side for 2018-19 season.He will be the coach-cum-mentor of J&K team for a period of 1 year. Pathan played 29 Tests, 120 ODIs & 24 T20 for India b/w 2003 & 2012. He will also be holding coaching clinics in various parts of J&K for the development of the game.
