Bihar raises compensation for rape victims

The Bihar government increased the compensation amount for acid-attack and rape survivors from Rs 3 lakh to 7 lakh. Human traffic victims would receive a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each instead of the Rs 1 lakh paid currently. The acid attack victims would be given a monthly compensation of Rs 10000 instead of lump sum. Survivors who are under the age of 14 would get 50% more compensation.

Awards for Station Beautification competition

The Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal distributed awards to winning stations of Station Beautification competition in Rail Bhawan. Balharshah & Chandrapur Railway Stations of Central Railway have been awarded the first position and cash prize of 10 lakh. Total 62 entries were evaluated on the basis of a number of criteria including the depiction of local subjects, culture & themes.

CCI launched an Online Guidance System

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) launched an Online Guidance System for determining notifiability of merger & acquisitions. The Guidance System has been named as “Do It Yourself (DIY): A notifiability check for mergers & acquisitions under the Competition Act, 2002”. It is a part of CCI’s outreach initiatives and measures to simplify compliance requirements regarding combinations.

Bharti Infratel to merge

The Bharti Infratel has got the approval of competition watchdog Competition Commission of India for merging its operations with Indus Towers. The proposed merger values Indus Towers at an enterprise valuation of ` 71,500 crore & will create one of the largest mobile tower entities worldwide with 1.63 lakh towers in all 22 telecom circles. The combined company will own 100% of Indus Towers.

FIFA lifts suspension on Guatemala

FIFA lifted a suspension imposed on Guatemala over its failure to comply with anti-corruption rules. The suspension prevented Guatemalan teams from participating in international competitions such as the Gold Cup, the Central American Games and the CONCACAF Champions League. FIFA imposed ban on Guatemala in October 2016.

India won 20 gold at junior athletics meet

India finished on top in the seven-nation competition with 20 gold, 22 silver and eight bronze medals at the 3rd South Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Colombo. Host Sri Lanka bagged rest of the 12 gold medals in the competition along with 10 silver and 19 bronze. The juniors will next represent India at the 18th Asian Junior Athletics Championships to be held in Gifu, Japan.

Kochi to host India Skills Kerala 2018

Kerala will host the India Skills Kerala 2018 – in Kochi from April 28 to 30, as part of the World Skills India 2018.The event is aimed at identifying and training talents to get medals at the World Skills Competition Kazan 2019. The proposed India Skills Kerala 2018 is an avenue provided to the youngsters in the State to showcase their vocational skills.

Indian firm among finalist in a competition

Indian startup ‘Uravu’ that has developed a technology to create water from the air is among the 5 finalists in a global competition. The 2-year competition is to create a device that extracts a minimum of 2,000 liters of water per day from air using 100% renewable energy. Los Angeles-based XPRIZE is running the water abundance prize with the support of the Tata Group and Australian Aid.
