67th National Garment Fair 2018 in Mumbai

The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) organized “India’s Largest Apparel Trade Show – The 67th National Garment Fair” from 16th July to 19th July 2018 at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. A Memorandum of Understanding between Govt of Gujarat & CMAI was signed to promote Gujarat as a destination for investments. The Fair was inaugurated by Kishore Biyani, CEO of Future Group.

Goldman Sachs names David Solomon as CEO

Goldman Sachs Group Inc named David Solomon as its next chief executive officer. Solomon to succeed CEO Lloyd Blankfein, who was the CEO since June 2006 and will be retiring on 1st October. The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is an American multinational investment bank and financial services company headquartered in New York City. Solomon previously worked for Irving Trust and Drexel Burnham.

Govt to deliver 11 Crore Ayushman Cards

The government will be printing and delivering 11 crore Ayushman Bharat ‘family cards’ by organizing public contact programme called ‘Ayushman Pakhwaras’. The CEO of Ayushman Bharat- National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) is Indu Bhushan. The scheme was announced by Union Minister Arun Jaitley in his budget 2018 and is expected to be the world’s largest health coverage scheme.

Gennova Bio gets patent to treat brain clots

The Pune-based biotech company has been granted a patent in the US for its version of drug tenecteplase, to treat brain clots (ischemic stroke), the 1st ever in the world. In India, Gennova has already started marketing Tenectase (tenecteplase) for ischemic stroke as an alternative to drug alteplase, which reduced the cost of treatment to ` 29000. The CEO of Gennova Bio is Sanjay Singh.

Vistara orders jets from Airbus & Boeing

Vistara, a joint venture between Singapore Airlines and Tata Sons, on Wednesday said that it has placed a firm order with both US planemaker Boeing and European aircraft manufacturer Airbus worth $3.1 billion. The move is taken as an expansion of its domestic network and to mount medium to long-haul flights on international routes. The current CEO of Vistara is Leslie Thng.

Recommendations for the post of MD in PSB

Bank Boards Bureau has recommended names of 15 officials for the posts of MD and CEO in several public sector banks. The bureau has recommended Anshula Kant, the current deputy managing director of SBI for the post of MD in the bank. The post was vacant following the resignation of B. Sriram as the MD of the bank. The other 14 names recommended include 6 current DMDs of SBI.

Sunil Mittal becomes honorary chairman of ICC

Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder & Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, will step down as the Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce. He will now function as the Honorary Chairman of ICC commencing July 1, 2018. He will be succeeded by Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever, as ICC Chairman. Mittal was only the 3rd Indian to have been appointed the chairman of the ICC since it was constituted in 1919.

Ayushman Bharat to create 1 lakh jobs

The central government’s ambitious public health insurance scheme ‘Ayushman Bharat’ would create more than 1 lakh jobs. The programme’s CEO Indu Bhushan said that jobs would be created in health sector, insurance and in construction industries. The Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission (ABNHPM), aims to provide Rs 5 lakh health cover to 100 million of India’s poorest families.

ICICI Bank Names Sandeep Bakhshi As COO

The ICICI Bank board has appointed ICICI Prudential Life Insurance CEO Sandeep Bakhshi as whole-time director and chief operating officer (COO). It is a new top position at India’s second largest private bank, to steer all its businesses. Chanda Kochhar, ICICI Bank’s managing director and CEO will remain on leave until a committee investigating allegations of impropriety completes its work.

Jeff Bezos becomes richest man in the world

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos becomes the richest man in the world with a net worth of USD 141.9 billion according to the Forbes world’s billionaire list. Bezos beat the principal founder of Microsoft Corp. Bill Gates, who is the second richest man with a total wealth of USD 92.9 billion. Bezos’ company Amazon has now become the second most valuable company in the world after Apple.

Dhivya: 1st Female CFO at General Motors

Dhivya Suryadevara has been named the chief financial officer of the United States’ largest automaker, General Motors. Dhivya will report to chief executive officer (CEO) Mary Barra who is also the first woman in the auto industry. Suryadevara earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in commerce from the University of Madras in Chennai, India.

Mahesh Kumar appointed as Dy Governor of RBI

Mahesh Kumar Jain has been appointed as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a term of three years. Presently, he is the Managing Director and CEO of IDBI Bank. Before his role in IDBI, Jain was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indian Bank. As per the RBI Act, the central bank should have four deputy governors.

Airtel Payments Bank has announced the appointment of Anubrata Biswas as its Managing Director & CEO. Anubrata will be responsible for driving Airtel Payments Bank’s mission of taking convenient and innovative digital banking services to the doorstep of every Indian. Airtel Payments Bank was the first payments bank to start operations in India.

Read to succeed Colao as Vodafone Group CEO

Vodafone Group has announced that Nick Read will be the next CEO of the company, succeeding Vittorio Colao. Colao steps down after just over 10 yrs in the job, during which he transformed Vodafone from a pure mobile player into a converged operator owning multiple cable & fibre networks. Vodafone owns & operates networks in 26 countries & has partner networks in over 50 additional countries.

Action for removal of Allahabad Bank CEO

Govt has initiated action for removal of Allahabad Bank CEO Usha Anantha-subramanian & 2 executive directors of Punjab National Bank following CBI’s first charge sheet in the $2 billion fraud at PNB. The Allahabad Bank board has also been asked to divest Anantha-subramanian of all powers and initiate further action. Ananthasubramanian was the MD & CEO of Punjab National Bank from 2015 to 2017.

Pawan Agarwal gets extension as CEO of FSSAI

Pawan Kumar Agarwal has been given three months extension as the Chief Executive Officer of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Pawan Kumar Agarwal is a 1985-batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre and has served as Joint Secretary of Ministry of Skill Development and Entre-preneurship. He was appointed as the CEO of the FSSAI in December 2015.

Apex Conference for the CEOs of Smart Cities

Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, Hardeep Puri, inaugurated the ‘First Apex Conference for the CEOs of Smart Cities ‘in Bhopal on 8th May. The two-day conference is being organised for providing a platform for cross-learning and knowledge sharing among the Smart City CEOs. The Union Ministry of Urban Development is responsible for implementing the smart city mission.

Rakesh Bharti Mittal new CII President

Bharti Enterprises Vice-Chairman Rakesh Bharti Mittal assumed the office of the President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2018-19.Uday Kotak, Founder and CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank took over as President-Designate of CII for 2018-19. Vikram Kirloskar is the new Vice-President of CII for the current fiscal.

SBI Life Insurance Company Limited appointed Sanjeev Nautiyal as its new MD and CEO.Sanjeev Nautiyal started his career with State Bank of India in 1985 as a probationary officer in bank’s Lucknow circle. In the immediately preceding assignment, he was the Chief General Manager of the bank’s Ahmedabad circle.He is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (C.A.I.I.B).

NITI Aayog releases Baseline Ranking

The NITI Aayog has launched the baseline ranking for 115 aspirational districts. The baseline ranking stands on 49 indicators across five sectors that include health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion and skill development, and basic infrastructure. The ranking was released by Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog.

Indra Nooyi Becomes ICC’s 1st Female Director

PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi has been appointed as the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) first-ever independent female director.Nooyi will join the cricket body in June 2018 for a 2-year term.The introduction of an Independent Director, who must be female, was approved by the ICC in June 2017, aimed at improving the global governance of the sport.

Kerala top NITI Aayog’s health index report

Kerala, Punjab and Tamil Nadu were the top rankers in NITI Aayog’s latest Health Index report.Report for the first time, attempted to establish an annual systematic tool to measure and understand the heterogeneity and complexity of the nation’s performance in the health sector.The report was released on Friday by Amitabh Kant (CEO of NITI Aayog).

Interim CEO of Vedanta

Board of Vedanta Limited has announced the appointment of Kuldip Kaura as the interim chief executive officer from September 1, 2017. This comes as former CEO Tom Albanese steps down on August 31. Kaura has held various senior management & leadership roles with the group for 15 years. Kaura was CEO of Vedanta from 2005 to 2008 & has been president of the office of the group’s chairman since 2016.

Vijaya Bank Bags SME Award

Vijaya Bank has been adjudged ‘Best Bank for SME Lending’ by Assocham. The award was received by Kishore Sansi, Managing Director & CEO of the bank. The award was given under ‘Best SME Lending’ category for public sector banks at the fourth SMEs Excellence Award function in New Delhi. The Bank’s SME lending grew in the FY 2015-16 from Rs 9426 Crores to Rs 10387 Crores i.e, growth of 10.20%.
