India’s first internet telephony service

11 : BSNL has unveiled 1st internet telephony service in India that will allow users to dial any telephone number in India through its mobile app, “Wings”. Before this, phone calls on mobile apps was possible within users of a particular app & not on telephone numbers. BSNL customers will be able to make calls on any network in the country even by using BSNL Wi-Fi or any other service provider.

IMD To Team Up with BSNL For Weather Warnings

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is teaming up with state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to send extreme weather warnings to people. The alerts will be about impending extreme weather conditions such as storms and heatwave.The exercise is being carried out in an experimental stage, and if successful the plan is to rope in other weather agencies.

Cabinet okays defence spectrum budget hike

The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approved increasing the budget for laying of ‘alternative communication network’ for defence services. The alternative communications network is being set up in lieu of airwaves vacated by the Defence Ministry for civilian use. The project is being implemented by state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

VNL signs pact with BSNL

Telecom equipment & solutions provider VNL has signed a MoU with BSNL to provide solutions for disaster management. ‘Relief 123’ service will restore connectivity at disaster sites, help locate affected & integrate information across platforms to enable informed decision-making for quick relief. It has been designed to work in different scenarios, including natural disasters such as tsunamis

Aeris Communications partners with BSNL

Aeris Communications has entered into a partnership with BSNL to provide packaged Internet of Things solutions & services to small, medium businesses & PSUs in India. Collaboration is aimed at propagating IoT projects across India as part of digital transformation drive. Aeris will leverage BSNL’s wide network coverage, to provide end-to-end IoT services platform for OEMs & service providers

BSNL signs MoU with Facebook & MobiKwik

BSNL has inked agreements with Facebook and MobiKwik as its looks to popularise the internet and its value added services among customers. Under the MoU with Facebook BSNL will provide connectivity for the Facebook’s Express Wi-Fi Program. Under another MoU, BSNL will work Mobikwik to co-create a BSNL mobile wallet to facilitate payment for its products and services.

Nokia, BSNL to develop 5G ecosystem

Nokia and state-run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will team up to accelerate the development of a 5G ecosystem in India. Nokia will help the transaction of BSNL through its 5G end-to-end solution, including its AirScale radio access portfolio and AirFrame data centre platform for extreme broadband and ultra-reliability and low-latency communication.

BSNL Launches ltd Fixed Mobile Telephony

BSNL has announced the launch of ‘Ditto TV’ & limited fixed mobile telephony. The app helps in virtually turning mobiles into cordless phone working in sync with landlines within home premises. The latest limited Fixed Mobile Telephony (FMT) service is different from the FMT service it announced last year. The FMT allowed customers on roaming in India & overseas to connect their landlines.

BSNL Launches Aadhar Based e-KYC Project

BSNL has launched its Customer Acquisition and Customer Communication Management (CACMS) project. It aims to digitalize business process to ensure faster service, accurate customer responses & customer satisfaction. The project provides an Aadhar based e-KYC service for immediate activation of new mobile connections. It has selected Intense Technologies to deliver the CACMS project.

Anupam Shrivastava appointed as CMD of BSNL

Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved appointment of Anupam Shrivastava as CMD of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
