Cabinet approves MoU on aviation with BRICS
The Union Cabinet approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) amongst BRICS nations on Regional Aviation Partnership. The government aims for the BRICS nations to benefit from the establishment of an institutional framework to corporate in the field of civil aviation. The MoU has the potential to spur greater trade, investment, tourism amongst the BRICS Nations.

NDB plans to launch Americas regional office

New Development Bank (NDB), formerly referred to as BRICS Development Bank, is planning to launch its Americas Regional Office in Brazil. It will increase operational capabilities of NDB and facilitate identification & preparation of bankable projects in Brazil. NDB is mandated to mobilise resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in BRICS & other emerging economies.

‘Green Good Deeds’ gets global recognition

Green Good Deeds, the societal movement launched by Union Minister for Environment, Dr Harsh Vardhan has found acceptance by the global community. The movement aims to protect the environment and promote good living in the country. The ongoing BRICS Ministerial on Environment in South Africa, has agreed to include “Green Good Deeds” in its official agenda in the next Ministerial in Brazil.

Cabinet nod to BRICS pact on medical products

The government approved the pact with medicine regulatory agencies of BRICS nations on cooperation in the field of regulation of medical products.The MoU would facilitate better understanding about the regulatory aspects between the parties and could help in increasing India’s export of medical products to BRICS. The approval was given by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister.

1st meet of BRICS FMs & Central Bank Governors

First meeting of BRICS Finance Ministers & Central Bank Governors was held on the sidelines of IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington D.C.Main issues that were discussed were related to enhancing project pipelines of NDB evenly across member countries & expansion of NDB’s membership. Issues related to BRICS Contingent Reserve Arrangement as well as BRICS Bond Fund were also discussed.

BRICS Cup from next year, first one to be held in India

Coinciding with the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit next year in India, an under-17 football tournament will be played between the nations. As a lead-up to the 2017 under-17 FIFA World Cup, India will use the competition to test its infrastructure and on-field preparation.
iii. FC Barcelona or Qatar’s under-17 side have been mooted as possible participants due to their links with the United Nations body. The tournament’s launch was accompanied by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Associated Chambers of Commerce (ASSOCHAM) and the Brazilian representatives.

KV Kamath appointed BRICS Bank president

Eminent banker K.V. Kamath was on Monday appointed as head of the USD 50 billion New Development Bank being set up by the five emerging economies of BRICS grouping. Mr. Kamath will have a five-year term of the bank, which is likely to be operationalised within one year.
