World Population Day

World Population day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. This year, the theme for the World Population Day is ‘Family Planning is a Human Right’. According to UN, China with 1.4 billion & India with 1.3 billion people are the 2 most populous countries, contributing to 19% & 18 % of the global population respectively.

National Statistics Day on 29th June

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will attend the closing ceremony of the 125th birth anniversary of Professor P. C. Mahalanobis on Statistics Day on 29th June. The theme of 2018 is – Quality Assurance in Official Statistics. The objective of the celebration is to create public awareness about statistics in socio-economic planning, to acknowledge the contribution of Prof. Mahalanobis.

First-ever nature-themed comic book

To foster love for nature & raise awareness about its protection among children, WWF-India has launched its first-ever comic book. ‘The Great Indian Nature Trail with Uncle Bikky’ follows the travels of its protagonists Uncle Bikky, Chunmun and their dog Duggu as they learn about wildlife across India. Book was launched by Bikram Grewal, author and Ravi Singh, Secretary and CEO, WWF-India.

World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day, international observance observed June 20 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world. On 4 December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 55/76 decided that, from 2001, 20 June would be celebrated as World Refugee Day. UNHCR host World Refugee Day events in order to draw the public’s attention.

World Blood Donor Day, 14 June 2018

Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. The event serves to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations. This year’s slogan is “Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life”.

Andhra Pradesh declared open-defecation free

Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu has declared the state open-defecation free after achieving the goal of constructing 2.77 lakh individual toilets. “We’ve completed the task of constructing toilets but they have to be used by every individual. For that, the administration has to take up some awareness programmes,” Naidu said. Notably, the state’s urban areas were declared ODF in 2016.

Ban on polythene in Uttarakhand from July 31

In Uttarakhand, Polythene will be completely prohibited from 31st July in the state. All the polythene vendors have been asked to finish the polyethene stock before 31st July. One week before the ban, a mass awareness campaign about environmental damage caused by polythene would be undertaken in the entire state.

World Environment Day 2018

World Environment Day is the UN’s most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. World Environment Day is the “people’s day” for doing something to take care of the Earth. The theme for the World Environment Day 2018 is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. Every World Environment Day has a different global host country. This year it is India.

Financial Literacy Week to begin on June 4

The Reserve Bank of India has chosen ‘customer protection’ as the theme for the Financial Literacy Week beginning on June 4. The event ending on June 8 will focus on creating awareness among customers of banks about financial products and services, good financial practices and going digital. Bankers, Financial Literacy Counsellors and other stakeholders will participate to create awareness.

World Bicycle Day was observed on 3 June

On June 3, 2018, the first official World Bicycle Day was celebrated. It was approved on 12 April 2018 as an official United Nations day of awareness about the multiple societal benefits of using the bicycle for transport and leisure. It encourages the Member States to include the bicycle in international, regional, national and subnational development policies and programmes.
