Vistara orders jets from Airbus & Boeing

Vistara, a joint venture between Singapore Airlines and Tata Sons, on Wednesday said that it has placed a firm order with both US planemaker Boeing and European aircraft manufacturer Airbus worth $3.1 billion. The move is taken as an expansion of its domestic network and to mount medium to long-haul flights on international routes. The current CEO of Vistara is Leslie Thng.

Indian Naval aircraft deployed for RIMPAC

Indian Navy’s P8I long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft from INS Rajali has inducted at Hawaii for participating in the Rim of Pacific Multinational Naval exercise. This is the first time ever that an Indian Naval aircraft has traversed so far east into the Pacific. The aircraft will form part of the largest naval exercise which has 26 nations participating in this year’s edition.

Government sets noise standards for airports

9 : The Union Environment Ministry has set noise standards for airports across the country, excluding defence aircraft, and those that are landing and taking off. A civil airport with more than 50,000 aircraft movements per year should not exceed noise levels beyond 75 dB(A) Leq (decibels) during the daytime. It should not exceed 65 dBA during the night.

Bills of ` 29.41 crore raised by IAF

Over ` 29.41 crores were spent to ferry the newly-issued Rs 500 and ` 2000 currency notes after demonetisation using Indian Air Force’s ultra-modern transport aircraft. IAF aircrafts C-17 and the C-130J Super Hercules undertook 91 sorties for transporting the currency. RBI had spent ` 7,965 crore in 2016-17 post-demonetisation for printing the new ` 2000 and ` 500 notes.

Maldives is evasive on Indian maritime craft

Maldives is evasive on proposed LoE for deployment of India’s Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft in the archipelago. It led to a protracted standoff between two countries on the issue of defense and security offences. Maldives had asked India to remove both ALH Dhruv chopper from the Maldives by end of June but India is still looking for some settlement with the Maldives.

CAG to audit Rafale procurement after payment

CAG will audit the procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France only after the “deal is fully executed and the payments are completed”. The ?59,000 cr deal became contoversial after the Congress claimed that the current deal is more expensive than the one struck during the UPA government. The Dassault Rafale is a French twin-engine, multirole fighter aircraft.

Malabar 2018 to be held off coast of Guam

Naval ships, aircraft & personnel from India, Japan & US will participate in the 2018 Malabar exercises off the coast of Guam in the Philippine Sea. Malabar for the first time is being conducted off the coast in the Philippine Sea which will include both ashore & at-sea training. Training will focus on high-end warfighting skill sets, medical operations & anti-submarine warfare among others.

World’s longest surface-to-air missile

World’s longest surface-to-air missile test was conducted by Russia quietly. This S-500 surface-to-air missile successfully struck a target that was 299 miles away. Russia claims that this missile system is capable of destroying objects flying in space 62 miles above the Earth’s surface. It is also capable of intercepting aircrafts, drones and hypersonic missile.

A historic moment for Arunachal Pradesh

A 42 seater ATR Aircraft of Alliance air landed in Arunachal Pradesh carrying CM Pema Khandu and 24 other passengers. This is a history in making since this is the state’s first commercial flight. This new commercial flight would develop new prospects of economic development in this region. The flights will be operated thrice a week.

TN to build India’s next generation aircraft

The Aeronautical Development Agency has set the ball rolling for building the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft by extending an invitation to private players in Tamil Nadu (TN). It is the first time an indigenous military aircraft programme is seeing the involvement of private players. It is also the first time a defence plane development project is proposed to be executed outside Bengaluru.
