State Council sought for implementing Act

The Tamil Nadu Elders Welfare Association has called for elderly constituion of the State Council for effective implementation of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. This was one of the 15 resolutions adopted at a meeting of the association, Chennai recently, said a press release. Others include those seeking an increase in the old age pension from  

 1,000 to   3,000 and 50 per cent concession in bus and train fare for senior citizens. The Association’s general secretary S.M. Chellasamy said the meeting also underscored the need to relax the maximum age limit for issuing insurance policies. The income tax exemption upto   5 lakh should be provided to those aged above 70.
