RBI hikes the short-term indicative policy rate

In a move to stem rising prices, the RBI hikes the short-term indicative policy rate (repo rate, or the rate at which banks borrow from the central bank) by 50 basis points to 8 percent with immediate effect. With this, the reverse repo rate (at which banks park their funds with the RBI) automatically adjusts to 7 percent.
