Rain relief work to be over by Jan. 5

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi ordered the collectors of districts that were affected by northeast monsoon rains to complete relief works, including distribution on compensation to the affected farmers and other sections of the society latest by Jan. 5. Also he said so during a three-hour discussions via video-conferencing from Fort St. George with the Collectors of 10 districts, hit by rains. The state govt. has sought an assistance of ` 1,832 crore to cope with the rain-damage and a central team also paid a three day visit to the flood-hit areas. Official sources said the team is likely to submit its report by Jan. 3 and within a couple of days, the centre is likely to announce interim relief.
