Power generation resumes at Mettur Thermal Station

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said while one unit of 210 MW began generation, other three units of the same capacity would commence production on May 31, restoring the total generation to 840 MW. She said the fire had destroyed the conveyor belt and its accessaries to a length of 180 metres, paralysing the plant. Though she had told the Assembly early this month that the restoration work would take a month, some newspapers had said that it would take at least two months. “I have directed the officials to carryout the repairs or a war footing”.
