New scheme for skill development

With a view to giving a boost to 9.68 lakh Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the state especially to create manpower and infrastructure for these units. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced a new training programme on an outlay of ` 3250 cr. Under the ‘Amma Skill, Employment and Training Programme’, youths aged 18-25 will get six months’ training, along with employment in these enterprises. They will get a monthly stiped of ` 5,000, and after the training, the govt. will pay companies ` 12,000 for teaching the youths the skills. The students will be examined by the National Skill Development Corporation and given certificates. The govt. will bear this cost too. 25,000 persons would get training in the current year, and 30 per cent of the beneficiaries would be women.
