Madras Medical College’s HIV testing tub gets accreditation

Madras Medical College’s HIV Testing Laboratory, a National Reference Laboratory, has been granted accreditation by the National Accreditation Board forb Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) for a period of two years. The accreditation has been granted for ‘medical testing in the field of Microbiology and Serology for the scope of Elisa, Rapid HIV Tests and Western Blot’ used in detection  of HIV, according to the certificate. MMC Dean V. Kanagasabai said it is one of the first govt. laboratories in the State to be accorded this status. He credits G. Jayalakshmi HIV (officer-in-charge) and her team, including Usha Krishnan and N. Lakshmipiriya, assistant professors, for their efforts in securing the accreditation.
